Frill & Cage

The runways were rife with ruffles, notably the flamenco-inspired renditions at Balenciaga and Ralph Lauren.

Cagey looks were popular as well, with sheers at Alberta Ferretti, among others.

Frills are no longer limited to skirting. Ruffled collars and sleeves made a splash at Chloe ..and more..traditional below-the-belt versions were fresh at Ralph Lauren and Balenciaga......

.......and add oomph with a graphic extra like a patterned bag?

NEW MOD

Sharp black and white is the statement for spring, with designers like Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney going for the bold.

Stripes are in this season, but they´re not your mother´s pinstripes. Bigger is better as far as we´re concerned - walk a wide line with high-wasited Balmain  pants or a graphic Dolce & Gabbana dress or break it up with a two-tone look by Chanel...

Trends NYFW 2013

Fall's florals are inherently more subdued. In a move that's romantic with a hint of drama, Tory Burch, Nonoo and Vera Wang embraced the flower, but in a moody turn, skewed the idea black and white — to interesting, almost gothic results.

The delicate pearl and diamond jewels accenting the look at the Row were a welcome surprise. The swallow pins and a diamond closer at the top of the blouse from Sidney Garber (designed by Brooke Garber Neidich) were the perfect adornment to the Olsens' elegant presentation.

The mule has been on its way back, but we're officially celebrating its return with this graphic version from 3.1 Phillip Lim.
