Milan Menswear Fashion Week autumns/winter 2012/13

The 21st Century? Forget it: the clothes in the pictures here would have looked old-fashioned 100 years ago. What´s so odd about this is that they are the very latest men´s styles - they go on sale next winter - shown in Milan this week by three of fashion´s most inventive and powerful designer companies; Burberry, Prada and Dolce&Gabbana. So where are the new ideas?

City gents, Seventies playboys, Sixties rockstars, old-school sporting heroes, 19th-centurs army officers and find-siecle fops were among the most richly referenced masculine paradigms of the week.

Highlight:
Gary Oldman, Adrien Brody and Jamie Bell take to the catwalk at Prada!

Dolce & Gabbana turns to nostalgia to escape current Italien gloom.

Burberry roots for a moors-ready ensemble of English gent classic. Skinny-Cut cord suits and flat caps, quilted biker jackets and country brogues.

Velvet smoking jackets, Wiliam Morris florals and Other Victorian touches were Milano - wide this season.

Gucci - to coincide with a fragrance launch - gave its fop a Fleurs du Mal feeling, whilst Etro gave its tailcoats wings with dyed feathers.

Donatella Versace riffed on uniforma; greaser, city suit and denim-freak, but focused on radically rocked-up military. We`re not sure how this floral camouflage would go down in the field, let alone on the street.

At Cavalli, Roberto´s son Daniele took how first step to succeeding his father with a military-motifed!
