New Year - New Wedding

 

Bridal's Spring 2017 season was all about exaggerated shapes (cue the bell sleeves, collared gowns and super-full skirts), textural floral appliqués and a more edgy, badass bride. Fall 2017 has us going back to basics, refreshing bridal staples in hopes of making the classics–like beading, tiers, bows, super-feminine laces and frothy tulles–new again. Below, bridal's new looks, fresh takes and fashion-forward updates worth noting.

 

 After seasons of sheer gowns, super-sexy looks and borderline risqué silhouettes, designers covered up for Fall 2017. After all, the concept of the bride wearing white, at its core, is about virginity and purity. This season, designers turned up the volume on traditional roots, sending covered-up, angelic looks with delicately pleated, Victorian necklines, full skirts, ladylike laces and feminine, textural appliqués down the runways. The trend hearkened to a youthful innocence the bridal runways have been lacking lately, and the proof lay in both the designers' inspirations and the execution: Vera Wang dubbed her Fall 2017 collection "Young Love," while Monique Lhuillier started her show notes with a string of adjectives, beginning with the keyword "youthful." 

 

 Bows for brides...groundbreaking. While this may seem like the most bare-bones idea for bridal, this season bows took on new forms–from oversized and abundant to architecturally draped and folded. No longer simply used to cinch your waist (and we'd typically discourage you from wearing add-on sashes that feel more like afterthoughts than part of the dress' design), these ties, knots, obis and twists adorned and embellished gowns of all shapes and styles. 

 

Fine lace will always have its place, but ribbon-work, matelassé, devouré and textural laces like guipure, macrame and re-appliquéd and embroidered laces gave this season's dresses a third dimension. While undoubtedly luxe in quality, these textures lend structure to otherwise romantic styles, and add visual interest to architectural silhouettes.

Cannes 2016: Some Best Dresses of All Time

Cannes 2016 is in full swing this week. Every year, the French town becomes host to filmmakers and stars that come out for the most prestigious film festival in the world. We get a chance to see gorgeous fashion and glamorous dresses as actors and actresses make their way onto the Cannes red carpet. Throughout the years, there have been a bevy of beautiful looks that have made the festival all the more special. Below are my picks for the best Cannes dresses of all times. Last year, Lupita Nyong’o donned this beautiful Gucci number on the red carpet. She made sure to make a photo worthy entrance as she twirled around on the red carpet.

Elizabeth Taylor attended Cannes in a tiara and gloves because—well, she’s Elizabeth Taylor. She does what she wants! Either way, this look definitely made a statement. 

Loving this Chanel Haute Couture dress on Julianne Moore. She really sparkled in this look. 

Audrey Hepburn wore a stunning cap-sleeve dress to Cannes way back in the day. Check it out below.

Marchesa is coming to a drugstore ! They may be best known for their stunning, ethereal gowns, however the celeb-loved line is teaming up with Revlon for an exclusive beauty collaboration for lips, eyes, nail and tools. While both parties are being pretty tight-lipped about the partnership, a few fab details have been released.

Revlon by Marchesa 3D Jewel Appliqués hit stores this October, featuring eight nail wrap designs inspired by Marchesa’s runway collections. Revlon by Marchesa Beauty Collaboration Coming Soon!

"Pearls, pearls ", said Karl  Lagerfeld backstage at the Chanel spring 2013 show, where he affixed them like polka dots onto wool jackets and sweaters.

Proenza Schouler showed off near- Tahitian versions in canary and tickle-me pink, while Balmain used delicate pearls on jackets and oxford shirts in her Celine pre-fall collection and TheRow showed showed pearl-flecked brooches floating on a dark lapel and ....
