Parisian Weddings

Let's face it–the French know what it means to be effortlessly chic. And weddings in the City of Light (and love) are no different–nuptials en françias opt out of the overdone centerpieces, the far-too-big bridal parties and there is usually no place to plug in a desire for chicken, fish or vegetarian on your reply card. Instead, the bride and groom dine with their guests (yes, there is such a thing as eating at your own wedding) and brides don't stress about an overwrought chignon staying put all night. When it comes to wedding planning, there's a lot to be learned from the French style icons like Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot and Carla Bruni, just to name a few. Here are the lessons to glean from Paris' high-style bridal set.

1) Bridesmaids Aren't Required.
Yes, they're optional. In France, couples first have a civil ceremony (which they deem more important than their religious ceremonies or parties) followed by a religious celebration or a festive reception. The most important women or men in your life are witnesses at your civil union and perform all the necessary duties of bridesmaid-hood, like making sure your champagne coupe stays full at your bachelorette party, all without donning the prerequisite chiffon dress in your color of choice. Wearing what they'd like to your celebration means they show up to your special day looking and feeling amazing. You are who you surround yourself with–when your entourage looks good, you look good.

2)  Second Looks Are More Sophisticated Than Sexy.
While we in the States have caught on to the idea of a wedding night costume change, in France two bridal looks are a given. Heading to the courthouse requires a tasteful and typically fashion-forward look, like a sweet lace mini, sharp jumpsuit or a Chanel tweed suit. After French couples make it official,  a more romantic, formal gown for a religious ceremony or reception usually follows. With the civil ceremony kicking off the festivities, sophisticated cocktail dresses are worn before a more dramatic gown, leaving little room for those overly sexy party dresses we've seen on too many American dance floors.

3) There is no such thing as a Parisian Bridezilla.
Brides in France are more relaxed when it comes to wedding planning. You'll likely never spot a Parisian bride having a tantrum at a hair trial (if they have one), and you certainly won't find a French bride-to-be with rollers in her hair arguing with her mother, maid of honor or florist. Instead, these brides go with the flow. The takeaway: Stress is not photogenic, and a calm mindset on your wedding day makes for radiant skin–and stunning bridal portraits.

4) Wedding Food = Good Food.
Is there such a thing as bad food in Paris? Probably not, so there is certainly no such thing as bad Parisian wedding food. Wedding dinners in the U.S. bring up bad memories of overcooked vegetables and inconsistent filet mignon, but French couples realize the importance of splurging on food and drink no matter how large their party's size. Take a cue and keep dish concepts simple but special for your wedding day, opting for a high-end balance of bright vegetables and decadent proteins. Trust us, your guests are much more likely to rave about a perfectly cooked steak than an attempt at molecular gastronomy. Don't neglect your wine choices or bar options either, your guests will appreciate options that pair well with each of their courses and the ability to order a digestif at dessert.

5) No-fuss beauty.
Say goodbye to Pinterest-inspired updos. The irreverent, bed-headed bobs and lobs of French It-girls paired with a romantic, bridal silhouette is the epitome of effortless style. Rather than overthinking your big day beauty, choose an update on your everyday look with glowing skin for the day-of. Only wear a bold or deep-colored pout if it's something you know how to pull off on the daily.

Keep saying I do!

Gorgeous Fall Wedding Trends

Spring and summer are considered wedding seasons and while they may have already gone, getting married in fall is just as magical and romantic. I personally love a fall wedding more than a wedding during any other season. I just think fall is the perfect time to do a rustic romantic wedding, which is totally chic. If you’re getting married this fall (or next fall), check out these breathtaking fall wedding trends that you can incorporate to it.

1. Darker, warmer, richer colors – forget about neon shades and pastels, this fall, use darker, warmer and richer colors for your wedding motif. This will give the whole wedding a cozier, more homey and more rustic feel.

2. Long sleeved dresses – it would only make sense to go for long sleeved dresses but aside from that, it’s quite the trend too. If you don’t mind being covered up a little bit more than the usual bride, going for a long sleeved dress is definitely one of the best ways to go. You can keep your bridal look sexy by keeping your dress’s silhouette so.

3. Bridal outerwear – in case you already had your dress done sans sleeve, you can still keep yourself warm by adding on an outerwear. Of course, you’ll want to choose something appropriate to go and blend in well with your whole bridal look; something elegant, classy and feminine. Capes are on trend right now so those are an option. You can also go for a fur shrug or maybe a feather bolero.

4. Fall blooming flowers – insisting that you have spring and summer flowers in your bridal bouquet is doable but it’s not practical. First off, it those flowers would cost more when they’re not in season and secondly, they’re going to seem out of place with every other fall-themed thing in your wedding. Go for fall blooming flowers instead to really give your wedding that feeling of fall.

5. Floral crowns – brides would usually opt for tiaras but for fall, why not go for a floral crown made with fall flowers? It will really tie in with the whole autumn-y look and feel of your wedding plus it’s going to give you that cool ‘queen of the woods’ look.

6. Vintage jewelry – lastly, you need to finish off your bridal look with jewelry and for fall, vintage jewelry would be really chic. This is where your ‘something old’ could come in. You could use heirloom jewelry for a truly vintage addition to your look. If you don’t have anything vintage, you can always fake it. If you have a really good eye for jewelry and all things chic, no one will know.

Would you like to get married in the autumn ?

Secret Fashion Fixes

We’ve all been there: a run in a stocking with no replacement in sight. Or a hemline that splits just as you’re running into a meeting. Fashion emergencies rarely happen when there’s a convenient solution nearby. But with this list, it can be easy to treat the problem for the moment until you can have it permanently solved. Here are some quick and easy fixes to get you through or help you avoid some common wardrobe malfunctions.

  1. Double-Sided Tape – To avoid a wardrobe malfunction and keep low-cut tops or plunging necklines in place, try double-sided tape on the inside of your garment. You can use generic double-sided tape or “fashion tape” cut into smaller strips and meant for fabric.  Double-sided tape also works well on loose hemlines.
  2. Twist Tie for a Loose Button – For a loose or fallen button, find a twist tie (the kind you’d find on a bread package), strip away the paper, pass it through the front holes on the button and twist tie it behind the fabric. Be sure to only use on loosely threaded fabrics, such as on a sweater. If you try this on fine silk or delicate garments, it will only ruin your clothes.
  3. Deodorant Removal Sponge – To remove deodorant stains quickly, rub the fabric against itself until the stains come off. I
  4. Eraser Earring Back – If you lose the back of an earring, make it stay put by taking the eraser out of a mechanical pencil (or pulling one off a regular pencil), slicing it thin and poking the earring through to create the hole in the middle. Make sure you take it off to poke the hole through to make sure you have it centered correctly.
  5. Graphite or Soap for Stuck Zippers – For zippers that won’t run, try rubbing the graphite from a pencil up and down the teeth on garments with dark fabrics. For lighter fabrics, try a white soap bar (while it’s absolutely dry).
  6. Dryer Sheets for Static Cling – Rub a dryer sheet all over a garment to remove static cling. It’ll smell nice, too!
  7. Deodorant for Breaking in Shoes – To avoid blisters while breaking in a new pair of shoes, rub your foot with deodorant to avoid rubbing. Always keep Band-Aids on-hand in case the deodorant starts to wear off.
  8. Clear Nail Polish or Hair Spray for Stocking Runs – Stop a stocking run in its place with clear nail polish applied directly to the root of the problem. If you don’t have nail polish nearby, try hair spray. It should hold the run until you can switch to a new pair.
Got any tricks up your sleeve? Leave them in the comments! xo

WARDROBE ITEMS - WORTH INVESTING

Investing in key pieces to build a wardrobe can be scary because you’re dishing out a lot of your hard earned cash. Fear not! This is a list of items that you should be investing in that have the potential to last you a lifetime!
A good coat is a great investment, since winter is long and it’s key to the impression make. If you can’t afford an expensive coat, you can find great trendy coats in the chain stores at very reasonable prices. Then try to personalize them by changing the buttons, so you don’t meet other people wearing the same exact coat.
Fabulous shoes can make any outfit look fantastic. Shoes can last years since generally when you become an adult your feet stop growing. Also be sure to care for these and have them resoled or polished when needed by a professional

Accessories should either be very cheap very expensive don’t waste money on the middle ground. A note about buying gold jewelry: gold holds value and has proven to been a steady commodity. It’s worth the investing.

The classic little black dress is worth spending money on since it will work for any season – all you have to do is update with some accessories. Find one in a classic fit and if need be, have it tailored to fit your body just right.

A good blow dry, manicure, and pedicure are absolutely priceless. They will give you the confidence to carry on any style. Additionally they will make all of your looks, casual or dressed up, like they’re on the same playing field because your grooming is on par.

A pair of Spanx are essential under tightfitting dresses, giving you a flat stomach without the work out. Girls who have a naturally curvy body shape should most definitely invest in this piece!
Try to plan your outfit the night before if you’re busy workingwoman to avoid the last-minute panic and possible fashion disasters when you’re in a hurry in the morning. While this doesn’t require a monetary investment, it does require a small bit of your time. Your morning self will surely thank you!
Now you have the essentials laid out before you about what’s worth splurging on. Start saving and investing in key pieces for your wardrobe to get a life long closet full of items you truly love and will actually wear!

Volunteer

There’s no doubt about it. Life is hectic – and the calendar only seems to get fuller with each passing day. Between work, school, kids and just general responsibilities, squeezing in time for volunteering can be a real challenge. Even when we have the best intentions, volunteer projects always seem to be pushed to the back burner, but we know in our hearts, working on projects that help others is an important part of giving back. Despite busy schedules and being pressed for time, making room for volunteer work feels great. Take a look at these ways to volunteer – and get started as soon as you can!

Get your kids involved. There’s nothing more important than teaching our children about giving back to the community, and believe it or not – they can be a great help. Turning volunteer work into a fun project is easy when you get kids involved, especially when they get the chance to help other kids. Try simple projects like having your kids organize a school supply drive or help gather up their slightly used toys for donations. An outdoor clean-up at a beach or park is another excellent way to involve children as volunteers – keeping the projects simple and accessible is a great solution.
Have a soft spot in your heart for military families? Volunteering  for a family whose loved one has been deployed can go a long way in helping them feel supported. Some military families can use nothing more than a good friend. Moving around regularly means making new friends everywhere they go – and a listening ear may be just what they need. If you’re feeling like you can do a bit more – offer to make an easy meal one night a week and drop off a lasagna or even just a batch of brownies. You’d be surprised how a little love goes a long way for families who are having a tough time.
Spend time with seniors.  Not exactly sure how you spend your volunteer hours? Working with seniors is a truly fulfilling way to spend your time and can be as simple as helping an elderly neighbor with yard work or a project around the house. If projects aren’t really your thing offer to play a round of cards or take your neighbor to do his or her groceries. Just spending time together can mean the world to someone who’s feeling a little lonely.
Help a furry friend in need. Have a love for animals, but just can’t have a pet of your own? Get in your puppy and kitty time by volunteering at a local animal shelter. Spending even just an hour a week giving some love to some pets in need will make you and Fido feel loved and special. Offer to take dogs for a walk or play fetch outside the shelter – these animals will love you unconditionally for even just a few minutes of one-on-one attention. Got a little more time to offer? Consider becoming a foster owner for a pet who needs a home.
Try a quick seasonal clothing drive. Each season when you switch over your clothes, sort through the items that are no longer your faves or just don’t fit quite right anymore. Do the same with shoes, bags and even office-appropriate looks. Make a big pile perfect for donating directly to a local family or drop it off at your local clothing donation station. It’s a simple act, but one that goes a long way.
How do you find ways to volunteer with your busy schedule?

TO MIX DIFFERENT TEXTURES

Even though my wardrobe has a distinctly feminine style, sometimes I love to venture outside of my comfort zone and thrown in the unpredictable pieces–like a bit of pleather mixed with my favorite lace top or classic pleats paired with a chambray shirt. Combining textures within one outfit is an easy way to maximize your wardrobe and add a little spice to your personal style, but if you haven’t yet experimented with it ....

LACE & DENIM :

A closet staple for every woman should be a denim jacket or a denim jeans. While you may be tempted to pair your jacket with a classic flannel or white jeans, combining denim with lace is another option for dressing up an all-American must-have. The dusty pink of the lace skirt perfectly complements the rustic appearance of this jacket style and, ultimately, boosts this look to another level of sophistication.

LEATHER

As a self-proclaimed girly-girl, I never understood the attraction of leather looks until recently. A couple of months ago I purchased my first pleather-accented top and it has become one of my absolute favorites! Realistically, you won’t find me wearing studs, biker boots, or a full-on leather jacket anytime soon, but I’ve grown accustomed to the look of leather mixed with my feminine pieces. This rose jacquard full skirt paired with a chic leather top will strike the perfect balance of femininity and edge.

What are some of your favorite texture combinations? Sound off in the comment section, I can’t wait to get more ideas!! xo

DATE OUTFITS INSPIRATION

f first impressions are everything, there’s definitely something to be said about the amount of time and effort women put into creating the perfect first date ensemble. To save yourself the time spent staring into your closet, take a cue from the following outfit inspirations to make your first date one for the record books.

Maybe your date has an exciting night of dancing, drinks, and socializing in mind. With this type of evening ahead, feel free to have a little fun with your outfit. Pair a demure crop top with a pleather A-line skirt for an alluring yet edgy look. Make sure to take a bag with a shoulder strap so that your hands are free for dancing and the possibility of hand holding, of course. This outfit is sure to grab attention, so be confident in wearing more neutral makeup (like nude/rosy lipstick), in order to let the rest of your look shine.

You’re an adventure-seeker and your date seems to be, too? If you’re pretty sure that the night could lead to laps around a go-kart track or at the end of a bowling lane. This outfit is for you. Having a casual first date doesn’t mean you should’t put your best foot forward. Of course, comfort is key, otherwise you’ll be worried about your outfit rather than focusing on the activity. A bold striped shirt is always a great go-to and, let’s be honest, guys always love a girl in a great pair of fitted jeans. Add a swipe of enticing deep red lipstick and he won’t be able to help but fall under your spell!

There’s something so serene about the glow of candles, but throw in the potential of romance and it becomes all the better. If your first date happens to be a romantic dinner for two, consider dressing in a bold color that will truly stand out against the all-flattering candlelight. With such a bold hue, nude or neutral accessories will add the perfect accents. Swipe on a shade of baby pink gloss and you’re almost guaranteed a kiss by the end of the night. xo

Style Check

Wer trägt es besser ?

Olivia Palermo vs. Kate Upton

It-Girl Olivia Palermo beweist mal wieder Ihre Stilsicherheit!!

Was meint Ihr ? xo
