Trendguide Fall 2014: Girl meets Boy

Lats year´s tomboy trend has morphed into something a bit more feminine...
but only a bit.

The key to working this trend ? Mix an ultra-girlie item - like silk slip or a sheer skirt - with a really masculine piece. Dior , Christopher Kane  and Michael Kors threw oversize blazers  and coats, over delicate dresses and everyone from  Erdem to Jonathan Saunders teamed tailored trousers with skirts...

TrendGuide: Cardigan

A cardigan is a piece of knitwear that buttons or ties in the front as opposed to a pullover, which is “pulled over” the head. There is more to this item than the traditional V-neck button-through style that makes the outer layer of a typical ‘mom’ outfit. Embellished, laced, and colorful cardigans can make your outfit complete by adding just one extra layer. This piece is one of my favorites for making the transition from summer to fall.

Over A Plain Blouse: Pop a cardi over a sleeveless or narrow-sleeved romantic blouse or streamlined shirt. Blouses and shirts with billowing sleeves bunch up underneath the fitted sleeves and look unsightly. If you have a traditional cardi style in your closet, try cinching it in at the waist with a wide belt for an updated look for the office.

Over A Simple Camisole: Layer just about any cardigan style over a knitted top or camisole, and enjoy the versatility of this extra layer. You can easily dress up a plain camisole by choosing an embellished cardigan with lace detailing – very on trend!

These versatile layering options are the perfect way of adding a new dimension to your everyday look throughout multiple seasons. Plus, since they’re so slimming, you can easily throw an overcoat on during the winter months and still stay cozy underneath.  What’s your favorite way to wear this summer to fall transition piece? Comment below with your style tips!

Hair Bow Accessorizing

So many bows, so little time. A lot of people think they might look silly sporting a bow, but I’ve tracked down some great ways to wear one without looking like it’s your first day of kindergarten:
1. DOUBLE UP: Try using black grosgrain ribbon (that’s the one that has the tiny lines going across) and double your bow on a high pony. Make sure the pony has a bit of a messy texture so you don’t look like you’re going to cheer at a pep rally– no offense, cheerleaders!

2. LONG + LEAN: If you have super long hair, wear a long thin bow and let it get lost in your locks!

3. GOOD IN GOLD: Pretty obsessed with this one. Two of my favorite things: gold and bows. It’s girly and dainty but still looks chic and buttoned up.

4. SUPER CHIC STACK: What could be better than a hat/headband hybrid? This flat-stacked bow is so perfectly tailored and set on a wide headband. Perfectly chic!

What’s your favorite way to wear bows? I’m super excited about the oversized wire look – it’s so chic and makes such a statement! XO

Scarlet Fever

Forget the LBD - the LRD - long red dress - is where it´s at for ladylike glamour right now.

These stars know that if you´re choosing the vampiest of shades, it´s cool to cover your legs.

We´re particularly obsessing over Mrs. Beckham´s chain-detailed get-up ( her own design, of course)

Fashion-Duell: Flatterkleider

Was meint Ihr ? xo

How to Rock the High-Waisted Trend

he high-waisted look is definitely high fashion–which means it’s a little daunting, too. Trust me when I say it’s not just for a specific body type. Here are some  tips to make this look work for you:

The point of this look is to highlight your waist, so don’t bunch up your shirt or pull it out a small bit to make look half tucked–make sure it’s lying flat across your figure before tucking it into your skirt or pants. Yes, this look will show off all areas, but it also works to flatten your mid section allowing you a bit of a boost to feel great about your figure – no matter what shape you are.

Bottom line is -it’s chic! Black is the ultimate color that makes all figures sexy and alluring, plus it doesn’t show off wrinkles and bulge as much. By using black as a base, it creates a strong platform to work the rest of your outfit around.
t’s no secret that heels will always make you look taller, duh! But did you know that if you wear pointed heels, your legs actually look longer? Pairing these two styles together will make it look like you have legs for days! Go on and hashtag that one while you rock two trends in one!
How will you wear this trend? Are you the kind of girl who likes to blend the trends by wearing high-waisted pants and pointed heels? Or are you modestly trying out a flared hem skirt with a slightly higher waist? Which ever you choose, I want to hear your style suggestions! xo

How To Wear Jeans To The Office

Once considered by the white-collar community to be ‘weekend wear only’, jeans have taken on a new life with the turn of the century. No more are jeans only for cowboys and rough-and-tumble laborers, no ma’am! Nowadays, jeans have become much more universal in any stylish person’s wardrobe.
With more office cultures embracing a casual-professional vibe when it comes to work wear, it’s awesome to see that wearing jeans to work is becoming more acceptable. However, you can’t just roll into the office wearing your favorite pair of jeans and comfy tee; there’s a fine line between slouchy chic and just plain lazy. But I’m here to help! Here are five tips for making sure you still look work-appropriate in your jeans.

When it comes to the jeans themselves, a darker wash is always better for the office. Lighter washes tend to appear more casual and give off a certain hands-off vibe; a dark jean says you mean business. Whether you opt for a deep blue or black wash, go with a super-skinny jean for maximum sleekness.

The easiest way to instantly transform a pair of casual jeans into professional pants? Throw on a pair of heels. Opting for a sleek boot with a stacked heel is a great option for fall, but you can never go wrong with a classic pump in nude or black.

The blazer is one of the oldest “professional woman” staples in the book, and the same goes for wearing the jacket style with jeans. It’s also a great way to add color—while a blazer in black or navy blue is a standby, trying one in a feminine cream or even a more daring red or coral will jazz up your work look without making it too loud.

How To Wear Camo Print

Camouflage doesn’t just belong in the army. Real and pseudo-military garb is hitting the city streets and campus walkways this year, with everything from jackets to hats to shoes. If you want to embrace this trend, look for unexpected ways, like my suggestions below, to bring out your inner GI Jo(anna).

Camo Jacket with Everything! – No matter if you’re rocking a miniskirt, some ripped jeans, or a full-length tutu, a camo jacket will be the right balance of print to neutral every time ...

Camo Skinny Jeans – Perfect for pairing with a muscle tank and beaded sandals for summer and then boots and a blazer for fall, these pants will definitely get some good use!

COFFEE & CLOTHES

If there’s one thing fashionista love it’s coffee! Well, and red lipstick, sky-high heels, coats as capes, polkadots mixed with stripes, and…. Okay, so we love a lot of different things, but we can’t live without our coffee! Whether you take it iced with lots of milk and sugar (like me!), totally black, or soy, non-fat, 2 pumps, and only one raw sugar, we all can attest to the power of coffee! It is our main source of fuel, well that and the inspiration high we live off after devouring the latest glossies from Vogue! There’s just no doubt about it: coffee and fashion belong together!

HOW TO WEAR SILK HEAD SCARVES

Playing around with my grandma’s vintage scarves as a girl was always a fun pastime – and boy am I glad I saved a few of those gems! That’s right, silk head scarves are back ladies! Here’s my favorite ways to wear these beautiful accessories as inspired by my grandma!
1. Turban Style

The second style is the turban and looks best with twists. Gather all the twists into a low ponytail and place the scarf on your head with the long side on the back. Grab the long hanging ends and tie them in the front twice. Twist each end and tuck them into the back of the turban. Then grab the front and roll it into itself and tuck it into the node at the top. Release the twists in the back and you are good to go on your funky turban style.
2. Buns
Grab all your hair and wrap it into a lose bun. Place the scarf with the long side in the front and make sure it completely covers the bun. Then tie the scarf to secure it. Grab one of the ends, wrap it around the bun and secure it underneath the scarf. Repeat the on the other side. Push it back to reveal a bit of hair and you are done.
3. The Chiquita Banana
This is one of my favorites and I call it Chiquita Banana. Wrap the scarf around your head and tie it in the front. Tie it 3 times and then twist each end and tuck it into the scarf.
So what do you think? Will you try these vintage-inspired silk scarf looks? Tell me !! xo

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SHOES

Just as you take care of your clothes and jewelry, shoes also need some tender loving care. A few minutes of your time each week can give you a sparking collection of shoes that can last for a lifetime!
1. They’ll Last Longer – It comes without saying that every time I pick up a shoe I love, I immediately cherish it in my closet and can’t imagine not having them in 10 years! Shoes are a part of my daily outfit, after all, so I make sure to take care of them so they last.
2. You’ll Have More Options – If you manage to make your shoes last longer, you’ll end up with a nice big collection of shoes. The kind of collection that would make any fashionista jealous! Having a huge collection will give you an option for every occasion, which will make you a fashion icon among your friends. Just one warning: make sure you have the closet space for your collection!

3. You’ll Save Money – How many times have you had to run out and buy a pair of shoes to go with your outfit for an upcoming event just because you don’t have anything in your closet that would work? Buying shoes in a bind not only causes stress, but also it can force you into buying a pair that’s more expensive – not ideal! By regularly taking care of your shoes to make them last longer, you can save a couple of extra trips to the shoe department and eventually save a lot of money. xo

How to Shop Your Closet

Sometimes it’s easy to forget about the amazing pieces of clothing that already reside in our closets. Unless you spend hours going through it on a daily basis, chances are, only the newly acquired pieces stick out in your mind. But the trick to putting together unique and interesting outfits often lies in searching through pieces you already own and putting them together in new ways. This affords you more opportunities to wear pieces nobody else will have because they’ve been procured months or sometimes years in advance of what stores currently have as well as increases your outfit creativity. Read ahead for ways on how to shop your existing closet and make those pieces shine.

1). Create a style book. Take pictures of your most special pieces. Go through your closet and pick out items with prints, stripes, or interesting cuts and textures. You don’t need to categorize your simple basics. But do focus on standout pieces. Then print the images and put them into a binder you can flip through when you’re stumped for outfit ideas. Do this seasonally to make sure your pictures are up to date.
2) Categorize your shoes. Take photos of your shoes and either post them on the outside of the boxes or put them into your style book for easy reference. It’s easier to create a head-to-toe look when you can see what’s available to you.
3) Go digital. If a physical style book isn’t your style, try apps like Stylebook , which will help you organize your wardrobe and suggest combinations based on the pieces you enter.
4) Move things around. Every season, go through your closet, discard what you don’t wear, and reorganize your items in a different way (place them in a different section of the closet) to force your eye into seeing things from a fresher perspective. This will help you pick out and wear pieces you may have been ignoring before.
What are some of your favorite styling ideas? How do you shop your own closet and keep things fresh? xo
