Soft and Feminine Looks For Spring 2017

Dress yourself for the season by adding color and life back into your wardrobe. Start pulling out breezier materials that can keep you cool as the weather warms up.

Dress in layers. Spring is characterized by quickly changing temperatures, so be ready for whatever nature throws your way. Always bring a sweater, cardigan, light jacket, or pair of leggings handy — it is always easy to take off layers if you get hot.

Aim for bright colors and patterns to give your outfit some style. Light colors give a cheerful, happy, and fresh look to spring fashion. Dark colors might feel like winter, but styled right you totally rock them during the warmer season . Pastels are always a go to in spring fashion Sea foam green, lilacs, and pale yellows add pop to any outfit. Imagine wearing the color at a picnic, or out on a walk in the garden, and ask yourself if the colors fit the scenery.

Stock up on neutral colors. Spring is all about color, but you need a good stock of neutrals to match things with. Neutral tops also carry over well into other seasons, making them a worthwhile investment. Neutral colors include tan, gray, navy, white, and brown. Use white for a classy spring look. It can be dressed up with sweaters and accessories, or you can play it down as a casual piece by keeping it unadorned.

Know that floral patterns are always in style during the spring. When the flowers come out, people love to see more flowers. Big floral dresses, shirts, and even pants are in style come March no matter where you live.

Julien Macdonald autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk

Julien Macdonald’s sparkling creations shimmied and strutted down the catwalk on men and women alike at Goldsmiths’ Hall today.

Staying true to brand, models were dressed in extravagant sequin and lace gowns as they walked briskly in time to the piercing beat. Bodycon dresses and form-fitting jumpsuits featured risqué mesh placement and thigh-high slits that captured the audience’s attention entirely.

Cut-out details, mesh panelling and intricate laddering were recurrent – often leaving little to the imagination – and a sophisticated colour palette of black, silver and scarlet shone effortlessly under the spotlight.

Menswear was cleverly integrated into the collection to complement the dominant women; Swarovski embellishment was applied equally on smart shirts, suit jackets and zip-up tops, all in black.

As usual – and to the crowd’s delight – Macdonald appeared on the runway to close the show. This season, he walked alongside Winnie Harlow as they acknowledged a well-deserved rapturous applause.

Hotspots - eat and drink during London Fashion Week

Whether you're going to the shows or simply looking to get in on the action, head to the Soho-based hotspots embracing London Fashion Week in all its stylish glory.

Those in search of a fun dinner venue for a big group of people after a day at the shows should head to Ember Yard, mere minutes away from the London Fashion Week hub. The latest restaurant from the Salt Yard Group serves up delicious dishes from Tuscany and the Basque region, cooked on their bespoke charcoal and wood grill. The menu includes chargrilled Ibérico pork ribs, smoked ribeye and grilled hake – perfect for sharing with friends. Plus, those with a London Fashion Week wristband will get a free cocktail on entry.

The beloved Italian deli Lina Stores is catering to fashion week's frazzled editors with its new grab-and-go lunch boxes. The Soho institution will be whipping up restorative hot dishes and sandwiches with its unrivalled selection of fresh pastas, cured meats and cheeses (think spicy 'nduja sausage and creamy burrata with gnocchi) as well as delicious antipasti, salads and drinks – plenty of fuel to keep you going between shows.

The Riding House Café is bringing back its fashion-faux-pas-themed cocktails for the autumn/winter 2016 shows, with this season's tipples named after famous red-carpet fails. Available from 16-23 February, the five cocktails include the alcohol-free Bad Ballerina (so-called because of Lara Flynn Boyle's infamous Oscars tutu), made from pomegranate juice, pear, lemon and ginger, and the Brit-Ju True Blue concoction of Blue Curaçao, lemon, egg white and sugar (an ode to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's double-denim look).

Peruvian barbeque and ceviche restaurant Señor Ceviche will once again be catering to the fashion set during London Fashion Week, with the return of its superfood menu. Making the most of South America's plethora of tasty yet healthy ingredients (including sweet potato, edamame, purple corn, choclo corn and plantain), dishes include sea bream ceviche, tuna tiradito (similar to sashimi) and hot crab causa (a Peruvian terrine).

You only have to take one look at Instagram to see that the fashion world is obsessed with healthy eating at the moment. Cue Jason Atherton, whose Pollen Street Social has recently launched London's first Michelin-starred vegan menu. With dishes including raw vegetable salad with lemon purée, sourdough croutons and peanut dressings as well as pearl barley with roasted Jerusalem artichoke and truffle, it's the perfect place for a post-show debrief.

New York Fashion Week - Staying Chic During a Blizzard

Between the knit hats at Rag & Bone and the fleece jackets at Thakoon, the designers who kicked off New York Fashion Week this week seemed to have received the report of the impending blizzard.

As biting winds and nearly a foot of snow swept through the city, street style stars also broke out their most seasonably appropriate — read: bulkiest, shearling-est, most down-filled — layers, swaddling themselves in Vetements parkas, Fila x Gosha Rubchinskiy sweatshirts, and fur hats like crowns atop their heads. See the best of New York Fashion Week's frosty street style, captured by photographer Adam Katz Sinding, here.
