James Dean's Iconic Style

Dean was killed in the crash and his friend Wutherich was seriously injured.

Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's Auctions, said: 'James Dean is quite the icon today yet he was only in Hollywood for five years.

He made three movies and two of those came out after his death. It's amazing that in 2013 he is still such a memorable icon.
'This is a candid photo and was taken by the photographer from Dean's station wagon in front. Dean was on his way to a car race and it looks like they were all having fun.

'It is a forever powerful and compelling image, with Dean clasping his mechanic's hand in a gesture of anticipation and triumph. As it is one of the last photos ever taken of him, it is most poignant.'

Photographer Roth first met Dean on the set of the 1956 film Giant and the pair became friends. Roth took some iconic pictures of Dean both on the set of that film and afterwards in Los Angeles.

 

Dean was the first ever actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, for his role in East Of Eden in 1955.

He is also the only actor to receive two posthumous Academy Award acting nominations, as he had a second one the following year for Giant.

The photograph, which is being auctioned alongside other images of Dean taken by Roth, is set to fetch £500 when it goes for sale on April 5.
James Dean is buried in Fairmount, Indiana, near his uncle's farm where he grew up. In 1977, a Dean memorial was erected in Cholame, California.
The sculpture was made of stainless steel around a 'tree of heaven' growing in front of the former Cholame post office building.

 

He was sent by his father to live with his aunt and uncle on a farm in Fairmount, Indiana, where he was raised in a Quaker background.
His acting career took of after he graduated from high school and moved back to Los Angeles to live with his father.
While studying at UCLA, he was picked to play Malcolm in Macbeth. He dropped out of the university in January 1951, to pursue an acting career full-time.

MOSCHINO - new Fashion Playground in Soho

So it should come as no surprise that Mr. Scott’s first www.moschino.com Moschino flagship in New York’s Soho neighborhood is filled to the brim with joyous items that will fill the darkened hearts of any New Yorker with at least a tinge of happiness. Take, for example, the oversize purses and heels that take up a large portion of the sales floor. There are also huge hangers in place of average clothing racks. “I’m so excited about bringing to life my super-sized iconic bags, shoes and hats,” Mr. Scott told the Observer. “That playfulness is something that I feel has been missing from the retail environment.”

In January of this year, Mr. Scott opened up a Moschino shop in Los Angeles, where he can often be found, when he’s not working for the brand in Milan. That boutique, located on Beverly Boulevard, also has a gallery-esque feeling, as it formerly housed the Hadid Gallery. While the product carried in these bi-coastal shops is more or less the same, the customer base is completely different.

“A lot of the L.A. Moschino customers are celebrities and so a lot of the business is done with personal shoppers and assistants,” he pointed out. “It has a more behind closed door feeling about it, where I think NYC will be a lot more about the people on the streets, who are trying on clothes and buying for themselves.” Aside from adding this new retail location to the Moschino portfolio, Mr. Scott has a busy few months ahead. Not only is he prepping Fall women’s collections for Moschino and his own eponymous range, he is also readying for the impending release of a documentary that charts his rise to success, titled Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer. The film will debut on September 8, at a sure-to-be star studded premiere, at Hollywood’s Chinese Theater. It will hit theaters nationwide on September 18.

US Fashionistas Style

The US of A is full of big beautiful cities that are full of stylish ladies. As I travel, I cannot help but notice all the differences between cities. Each one brings it’s own flavor and it’s own fashion sense. Some of my favorite cities to visit have some of the best style out there. Check out some of the differences in city style below! New York- New York style is a difficult one to peg down. You have your fashionistas, your trend setting babes, and your business casual beauties. Sometimes there is so much style, it’s almost impossible to take it all in. I do think that the city rubs off on people and makes them more stylish. I love it!

Miami- Miami girls know how to dress for the heat! In Miami, expect to see a lot of skin, shorts, and white. The sun is constantly out all year long, so they have no choice but to dress for the weather. There’s a ton of color in this city. Miami ladies are unafraid to match their eclectic city’s surroundings

Los Angeles- Los Angeles style is the picture of trendy. These girls are rarely caught in anything less than fashion forward. They often dress very rock and roll while still incorporating lots of color into their wardrobe. The close to perfect weather just adds to their ability to trend set.
