How To Wear The Military Jacket

Whether adding another layer to a more basic ensemble or giving a feminine getup an unexpected, forward-feeling twist, the military jacket can be styled in a multitude of different ways. These statements in outerwear provide a sort of fashion armor; you can take on the big world in a determined jacket with regal flair such as brass buttons and charismatic collars.

Fashion Therapist

There’s a good chance that what you’re wearing right now reflects what your state of mind was when you opened your closet door this morning. Besides practical wardrobe considerations, women often choose clothing based on their feelings.

Did you know that a British survey studied what makes up a woman’s favorite “happy” or “bad mood” outfits? Happy women preferred clothes that are “well-cut, figure-enhancing, and made from bright and beautiful fabrics,” while women in a bad mood gravitate toward baggy tops and jeans. Here are some tips on how to be your own “fashion therapist” and interpret what your clothes are trying to tell you.

(Jeans also made the happy clothes list, but ranked below a favorite dress, jewelry and favorite shoes.) Even when we need to wear a uniform, we often manage to sneak in an expression of our inner self. For example, a teenager in private school can choose to wear a pink cardigan, or a gray hoodie over her requisite pants and shirt, and her choice might indicate if it’s a happy day or a sad day for her. A working-woman may have her wardrobe dictated by her employer, but she may choose a beautiful jacket or a saggy old sweater to keep her warm on the way to work. Selecting the old sweater may be a result of feeling down when she left her house, and she may choose the jacket on better days.

In contrast, spending a day in drab, unflattering clothes may darken a bright mood. Why not try a fashion application of basic behavioral therapy? When you’re feeling bad, try avoiding an impulse toward clothes that reflect that bad feeling. Instead, reach for something that you would usually choose on a happy day. You may feel strange putting it on, but your mood may soon reflect your more positive fashion choice. We all like to seek refuge in our “bad day” clothes sometimes, just like we all need a big hot fudge sundae sometimes, but we can make these times less frequent and less habitual. Making an effort to treat yourself to your happy clothes, regardless of a sad feeling, reminds you that you’re worth the effort, and that you deserve to feel good in your clothes.

So, if you find yourself feeling sad and wearing a baggy top and unflattering jeans, go back to the closet. Put on some happy day clothes and maybe your mood will follow.

Fall Layering Techniques

Fall is here! For many of us it means buying pumpkin-spiced everything! For others it’s a chance to update our wardrobe and use the cooler temperatures to our advantage by layering up and playing with our style. I know I’m already trying out new ways to wear some of my summer favorites with my fall staples. Below are some other layering techniques that you might have not tried yet. ‘Tis the season, as they say. Let me know what you think in the comments section. How are you layering up this fall?

Lots Of Knit- I love mixing and playing with textures. It’s something that I can definitely do once the temperatures cool down, especially with knit. Try a creative yet chic knit-on-knit look. You could come up with something eye-catching, similar to the look below.

Denim Vest- Wear a denim vest over your favorite fall outfit in order to stay warm and trendy at the same time. It’s a rock and roll style look that I absolutely covet

A Chunky Sweater- Stay comfy in a chunky sweater. Wear it over your favorite jeans. I can see me wearing a chunky sweater with my favorite denim flared pants all fall and winter long.

Over-The-Shoulder Outerwear- Throw your favorite jacket or coat over your shoulders in order to look chic. It’s a confident fashionable styling trick that I look forward to trying out this fall.

Fall Jackets Styling

Jackets are one of the things you shouldn’t be without during fall. This piece can add warmth and comfort to your look while you’re out in the cold and it adds to the style and gorgeousness of your overall look, too! With so many jacket styles to pick from, it’s so easy to be overwhelmed – something that you wouldn’t want to feel when you’re on a budget. If you’re looking for jackets worth spending on and adding to your fall wardrobe, check out these jackets to wear with your street style fall look.
  • Denim jacket – denim jackets will always be on the list of must have jackets not just for fall but all year round because it’s chic and versatile at the same time. Wear a denim jacket anytime you want to dress down a rather fancy piece. You can also wear it on days when you just want something simple and classic. Denim jackets are great for layering, too! They’re not too warm yet won’t leave you freezing out in the cold.

Leather jacket – a leather jacket is a classic that, in my opinion, every woman should have. If you love the posh, chic and sleek look, you should definitely own a leather jacket and have it in your closet ready at all times. A leather jacket can give you a really cool and edgy kickass look when worn with pieces in black or leather but you can also get a sweet and sexy look with it when worn with more girly pieces. -

Embellished jacket – too tired to put together a cute outfit? Even the most basic, plain outfit would be a head turner when topped off with a cute embellished jacket. If you’re on a tight budget, you can DIY your own using a few craft supplies and an old jacket of your choice. This is sure to take your fall street style game up a notch instantly.

Cropped jacket – if you need something to add a bit more structure into your look, go for a cropped jacket. Cropped jackets are also great for emphasizing the curves on your hips since most have a length that fall just right above it and this makes for an insanely sexy silhouette.

Metallic jacket – showstopper by day, ultimate party outfit topper by night – that’s basically what a metallic jacket is and if you’re looking for something that’s sure to give your outfit that much needed ‘oomph’ this is the best way to go.
