Leather Jacket Layering

The temperatures are cooling this fall, which means it’s time to layer up. I was packing a leather jacket for my trip to New York a few weeks ago when I realized that I didn’t quite know how to layer it. I did some Internet research and got some ideas.  Eventually, I figured out what else to pack. If you’re in a similar predicament and don’t know exactly what to wear with your leather jacket, no worries, I’ve got you covered. Check out some ways that you can look fabulous while wearing a leather jacket below and let me know what you think in the comments section.

With Some Stripes- Wear a cool striped shirt under your leather jacket in order to create interesting patterns and textures. Add a flannel shirt to tie around your waist for a totally rock and roll look.

Over Some Button Downs- Add your leather jacket over a comfortable button down for an outfit that’s a little preppy and a little grunge. I love the look below. It’s very tailored. Make sure your button down fits your body perfectly to make this style work.

Add A Scarf- Put a long scarf around your neck to keep warm. It will create a unique silhouette.

Added To A Maxi Skirt- Try rocking your leather jacket with a maxi skirt. It’ll add something a little different to your silhouette, yet still look lovely.

Fall Layering Techniques

Fall is here! For many of us it means buying pumpkin-spiced everything! For others it’s a chance to update our wardrobe and use the cooler temperatures to our advantage by layering up and playing with our style. I know I’m already trying out new ways to wear some of my summer favorites with my fall staples. Below are some other layering techniques that you might have not tried yet. ‘Tis the season, as they say. Let me know what you think in the comments section. How are you layering up this fall?

Lots Of Knit- I love mixing and playing with textures. It’s something that I can definitely do once the temperatures cool down, especially with knit. Try a creative yet chic knit-on-knit look. You could come up with something eye-catching, similar to the look below.

Denim Vest- Wear a denim vest over your favorite fall outfit in order to stay warm and trendy at the same time. It’s a rock and roll style look that I absolutely covet

A Chunky Sweater- Stay comfy in a chunky sweater. Wear it over your favorite jeans. I can see me wearing a chunky sweater with my favorite denim flared pants all fall and winter long.

Over-The-Shoulder Outerwear- Throw your favorite jacket or coat over your shoulders in order to look chic. It’s a confident fashionable styling trick that I look forward to trying out this fall.

Falltrend: Layering

Now that the temps are starting to drop, you’ll need to start bundling and cozying up as well if you want to survive the outdoor weather comfortably. Aside from wearing chunkier items of clothing, one way to keep warm this fall is to layer. Layering allows you to create different looks, too, and what’s great about it is that you don’t have to especially buy new pieces to layer because you can simply make do with what you already have in your closet – great for those who are already done for their fall shopping. One thing about layering, though, is that it tends to make you look bulky but that’s a fairly easy issue to solve. Here are some tips on layering for fall to help you achieve a warm and chic outfit as well as a nicely balanced silhouette.
  • Limit it to three layers – limiting your layers to three keeps your silhouette looking rational. It’s much more practical, too, especially when the topmost (third) layer is something that can easily be removed when adjusting from outdoor to indoor temps. A typical combo would be a shirt, a jacket then a scarf or a coat. You can also try layering summer dressed with a sweater and then a jacket – the layering combinations are basically endless and just depends on what you have on hand.

Keep it thin – thinner pieces are more ideal for layering. You are going to be piling them on top of each other anyway so that’s sure to keep you warm. If it’s freezing outside and you feel the need to wear something heavy and chunky, wear it as the topmost layer only. This way, your silhouette won’t get as bulky and chunky.

Choose your fabrics wisely – there are fabrics that you can wear that aren’t as thick and heavy and chunky but are just as comfy. Leather, for example, provides great warmth without the chunk plus it gives off a nice, sleek and chic look too. Use these to your advantage and wear them to avoid too many layers and a too-heavy silhouette.

Keep it interesting – it’s so easy to lean towards going monochromatic when layering outfits and while there’s nothing wrong with that, just make sure that you keep your outfit interesting by adding sophisticated accessories or a pop of color into the mix.
