Work Wardrobe

How do some women do it? They always look amazing at work. So fashionable, yet simple, while the rest of their wardrobe looks just as amazing. Seems impossible to get that look down. You’re struggling with your own work wardrobe, let alone the rest of your wardrobe. What’s a girl to do? Here’s one thing you can do: create a work uniform. No, I’m not talking plaid skirts and white blouses. I’m talking about getting a few different outfits and accessories down together for a fashionable work wardrobe that’s easy and simple to create. Check out my helpful tips below.

Choose A Color Palette- See? I told you this wasn’t your everyday uniform. Pick out a color palette that works best with the city’s climate that you work in. For example, business folks in Miami probably wear more colorful looks to work, while New Yorkers are prone to darker styles. Two to four colors should be enough.

Find 5 Shirts For The Week- Pick out five different shirts within your color palette. Choose enough for the workweek, maybe get a sixth one just in case.

Add The Rest Of Your Look- Add some extras, like pencil skirts and slacks. I would say that 5 bottoms should be enough. Get two dresses you can easily accessorize and two jackets, plus some shoes to match. You’re work uniform is almost complete!

Shoes, Purses and Accessories- Pick up some flats and kitten heels to match your color palette. Next, get two big purses to fit any papers that need to travel. After that, pick out your favorite work appropriate accessories and you’ve got up to 30 outfits that are perfect for work and sure to amazing your coworkers!

To do list: Spring Cleaning

The snow may still be falling in some areas, but believe it or not, spring isn’t too far off. In just a few short weeks, the birds will be chirping and that spring sun will start peeking out – getting you exited and ready for a little clearing of the clutter. Over the course of the year, we tend to collect things, the extra stuff piles up and suddenly we find ourselves ready to give the whole house a deep clean. The traditional “spring clean” is an institution in many households, feels great and is an incredible way to kick off summer. If you’re already thinking about what to toss and what to keep, how about also figuring out some ways to make a little cash off your spring cleaning? Ready to hit the ground running with this? Here are a few ideas.

1. Host a garage sale. If this is your year to truly unload some baggage, a garage sale is a great way to get the job done while also making a little extra cash on the side. If you find you have loads of electronics, DVDs, books and videos lying around, the garage sale is the perfect spot to offload this type of stuff. Just remember: don’t overprice your items. People are there to find a deal.
2. Consign your clothes. You may be thinking to yourself: “no one wants to buy my old clothes,” but believe it or not, when it comes to fashion, consignment is a big business. You may not be able to retire off the return, but it will put a few extra bucks in your pocket….perfect for cashing in on that bikini you’ve been eyeing for summer.
3. Got collectables or vintage pieces? There’s a big market out there for both vintage and collectable pieces – from both antique shops to eBay. If you’ve got some moderately valued items, eBay is a great place to get started, while more big ticket items might have a place with an auction house or high-end antique dealer.
4. Consign or sell furniture pieces and other household items. When it comes to vintage and antique furniture and other household items (like dishes and barware), there’s a big market out there. Local antique and consignment shops will work with you to get the best price, but there are also sites like Chairish – for buying and selling vintage home items. Don’t want to try your luck there? Or are your items more contemporary? List them for sale on Craigslist.
5. Donate your items for a tax deduction. While a tax deduction might not feel the same as actual cash in your pocket, for many people – this really does have a high value. Determine what your deduction could be versus what you can make by selling the items. Sometimes a big donation is the best way to go.
Have you ever thought about making a little money off your spring cleaning? Do you think you’ll put some of these tips to the test?

Springtrend: Ways to Rock Stripes

Many people find stripes intimidating and, as a result, tend to avoid this pattern most of the time. It is believed that stripes can make you look wider and therefore a little heavier, too. But the truth is that stripes can actually be flattering on your figure when worn the right way. There are a few things to consider when wearing stripes and these include the size/thickness of your stripes, where you wear them and what you wear them with. If you love the look of stripes but are afraid of having them make you look bigger, check out these seriously stylish ways to wear stripes that will help you overcome that fear.
SUIT UP – If you love the look of street style outfits involving a suit but think that it’s too mature and grown up for you, try wearing a striped suit. This will give you the same sharp and sophisticated look but with a more fun and youthful twist.

DOUBLE VISION – Confused about what kinds of stripes to wear? Generally, you should wear horizontal stripes in areas that you want to look wider and vertical stripes in areas that need elongating. But if you think you need both kinds of stripes in different areas, go ahead and just mix and match, and wear the kind of stripes each specific area needs. The result will be a fun look that’s both flattering and chic.

ANIMAL STRIPES – Who says you have to stick with the traditional striped lines when you choose to wear this pattern? If you’re looking for something more interesting with just the right hint of sexy in it, why not try wearing animal stripes? Tiger and zebra stripes are among the most popular in this category but you’re more than welcome to wear other styles, too.

How To Wear A White Button Down

If there’s one thing that no girl should be without, no matter how basic and simple her style is and no matter how limited her closet space is, it’s a white button down shirt. It’s a timeless piece that you’re sure to get a lot of use out of. Aside from pairing it with jeans for the ultimate lazy day go-to look, there are a thousand and one more looks you can do with it. Here are 5 gorgeous ways to style a white button down shirt that you can try the next time you run out of outfit ideas.

THE HALF TUCK – another easy way to give your white button down shirt a more street style look and feel is to do the half tuck. Now, there are two ways you can do the half tuck. One way would be to leave one flap / side tucked in and the other out and the other one would be to have the front of your button down tucked loosely and the sides and back out.

LAYERED WITH A CROP TOP – you know how crop tops are so hot and on trend right now? Well, all that skin-baring could get your tummy real cold now that it’s winter so why not layer it up with a white button down? White button down shirts are ideal for layering because they’re versatile so it’s pretty much like a blank canvass waiting for colors, prints and patterns.

UNDER A DRESS – want to give your dress the slightest bit of that pretty preppy touch? Wear it with a white button down shirt underneath and make sure to leave the collar out. This look should be done with a dress that hugs the body like a shift dress or a mini dress so you can get the best effect.

Festive Plus Size Fashions

Being a plus – size lady has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to fashion. Exploring different brands can be difficult when you’re a plus size but lots of brands are venturing into the plus size world now so don’t lose hope. This holiday season; don’t let all these dampen your drive to dress up. Here are some plus size holiday fashion tips that will help you look your best for the coming festivities.

WEAR MORE DRESSES – dresses have a more feminine look and feel to them. They’re dressier and more chic too which is what you’ll want when dressing up for the holidays. Aside from that, dresses also often tend to make you look slimmer too. Make sure to stick to dress styles that you know are flattering on your body type. If you’re not sure about this, you can always wear shift dresses and A-line dresses or even wrap dresses as these are the ones that are considered universally flattering on all body types.

GET VAMPY – so, you know how they say black makes you look slim? While that’s definitely true, wearing black just doesn’t seem cheery enough for the holidays so if you’re looking for colors to wear that will make you look slimmer but don’t want to go Goth with black, try other darker colors that aren’t as gloomy as black like deep purple, maroon or even navy. This will give you more of a sexy, vampy look instead of a grimy one.

ACCESSORIZE – another way to draw attention to your assets and away from your flaws is to use accessories. Wear accessories on or around the area that you’d like to draw some attention to and leave the area where your flaws are bare

DON’T TAKE HEELS FOR GRANTED – heels don’t only make you look taller, they elongate your silhouette in general, too, making you look thinner than you really are. You don’t have to suffer with those super thin heels if you’re not comfy with them. You can opt for chunky heels or even wedges instead.

Boyfriend Jeans

If you have had enough of skinny jeans, then the newest trend – the boyfriend jeans – is definitely worth a try. Oversized and tastefully distressed, these comfy jeans have been the top choice of fashion mavens, from Beyonce to Jennifer Aniston. Pull the look off just like these fashionistas by heeding these tips on how to rock boyfriend jeans:

CUFF IT UP

his baggy pair can make you look chunky if not worn correctly. To avoid adding the non-existing pounds to your fame, remember to cuff the ends of your denims. Shortening the length can balance the bagginess. Most importantly, it gives you the chance to show off your shoes. If you feel like cuffing your boyfriend pants, make it a point to wear the flashiest shoes ever!

Be Sporty

Since boyfriend jeans are reminiscent of manliness and athleticism, then a good way to style it is to wear it with sporty apparel and accessories. Go for a varsity top (or one which conveys an air of vigor.) If you want to look more ladylike, a sporty crop top will do. End the look with a great pair of sneakers and you’ll end up with a beautifully boyish style.

Rock a Suit Like a GIRLBOSS

Suits have become one of the hottest trends this year and with celebs, models and fashionistas upping their suit game with each and every red carpet event and street style snap, I’m pretty sure this trend will be sticking around a little bit longer which means you have plenty of time to enjoy it. Whether you’re wearing your suit to the office or as a street style ensemble, make sure you don’t look boring. Check out these captivating ways to suit up like a boss.
1. Do it in one color – the easiest yet one of the most chic ways to go about wearing a suit is to go monochromatic. This means you’ll have to sport the same color from head to foot. If you think this is too boring for you, though, you can always break up the monotony of the outfit with a bright belt or other colorful accessories. If you’re petite, you might want to keep it as pure as possible since sporting one color from head to foot can really make you look taller which is always a great bonus.

2. Intentionally mismatch your suits – just because they came in pairs when you bought them doesn’t mean you have to wear them together all the time. Looking for a fun fashion adventure? Intentionally mismatch your suits, combining one piece from a certain set with another from a different one. This is perfect for wearing suits for your street style ensembles. Try wearing a plain piece with a printed one or maybe do your own take on the print on print trend with your suit. You can even wear just a piece of the suit set with other pieces for a more non- conventional look.

3. Man up – go for a suit that has a boxier silhouette to give your look a little bit of that menswear inspired vibe. This is a great way to create an androgynous outfit if you don’t feel like sporting anything too sweet and girly for the day but also don’t want to go all out on the tomboy look. If you want to add a hint of sexy to this look, you can do so by wearing something tight or revealing underneath like a corset or a crop top or by simply leaving a couple more buttons undone on your shirt underneath your suit jacket.

Falltrend: Layering

Now that the temps are starting to drop, you’ll need to start bundling and cozying up as well if you want to survive the outdoor weather comfortably. Aside from wearing chunkier items of clothing, one way to keep warm this fall is to layer. Layering allows you to create different looks, too, and what’s great about it is that you don’t have to especially buy new pieces to layer because you can simply make do with what you already have in your closet – great for those who are already done for their fall shopping. One thing about layering, though, is that it tends to make you look bulky but that’s a fairly easy issue to solve. Here are some tips on layering for fall to help you achieve a warm and chic outfit as well as a nicely balanced silhouette.
  • Limit it to three layers – limiting your layers to three keeps your silhouette looking rational. It’s much more practical, too, especially when the topmost (third) layer is something that can easily be removed when adjusting from outdoor to indoor temps. A typical combo would be a shirt, a jacket then a scarf or a coat. You can also try layering summer dressed with a sweater and then a jacket – the layering combinations are basically endless and just depends on what you have on hand.

Keep it thin – thinner pieces are more ideal for layering. You are going to be piling them on top of each other anyway so that’s sure to keep you warm. If it’s freezing outside and you feel the need to wear something heavy and chunky, wear it as the topmost layer only. This way, your silhouette won’t get as bulky and chunky.

Choose your fabrics wisely – there are fabrics that you can wear that aren’t as thick and heavy and chunky but are just as comfy. Leather, for example, provides great warmth without the chunk plus it gives off a nice, sleek and chic look too. Use these to your advantage and wear them to avoid too many layers and a too-heavy silhouette.

Keep it interesting – it’s so easy to lean towards going monochromatic when layering outfits and while there’s nothing wrong with that, just make sure that you keep your outfit interesting by adding sophisticated accessories or a pop of color into the mix.

Boho Wardrobe Must have

If there were any look that I’d be willing to rock for all the years in my life, it would be the Boho chic look. This particular look is so perfect because it’s so easy and organic. It’s light, it’s free flowing and it’s very forgiving as well. Boho is also the style of choice of many music festival goers, making the look a staple warm weather look. Here are some of the wardrobe must haves for a chic summer bohemian look.
1. Maxi skirts – maxi skirts are one of the essential pieces you should get your hands on if you’re building a Boho wardrobe that you’ll be using for the summer. They’re very feminine and chic and they’re so light so they’re great for summer. Wear them with anything from a simple tank top to a romantic lace shirt and you have yourself a minimalistic Boho look.
2. Peasant tops – whether you’re aiming for a full on Boho look or one that’s more modern, a peasant top is sure to come in handy. Peasant tops are very versatile. You can wear these with maxi skirts or on top of maxi dresses to get a more natural Boho look or you can pair them with jeans for a more modern Boho look. Try to get your hands on peasant tops with embroidered detailing on them. Embroidery always adds more to the Boho-ness of any piece.
3. Flared jeans – the Boho look isn’t all about skirts and dresses. You can wear jeans, too, as mentioned above but not just any kind of jeans, though. Skinny jeans are a bit too contemporary for the Boho look so opt for flared ones instead. They’re quite flattering, too, so you should have no problem wearing them no matter what your body type is.
4. Flower crown – wearing a flower crown over your head when going for the Boho look may seem a little too cliché but it works like a charm every time. Since Boho is all about being free and natural, flowers make the best accessories to adorn your hair with. You can make your own out of either fresh or plastic flowers if you don’t want to spend too much on headpieces like these.
5. Sun hats – if you’re not into very girly accessories or the flower crown just doesn’t do it for you, you can replace it with a hat instead. Try to get as natural as possible by opting for woven straw hats and the like and reserve your bowler and fedora hats for other street style summer looks. If you’re planning on doing a modern Boho look, though, you can use them as well.

Leather In Early Fall ?

Leather while it’s still warm outside? Yes please! Though you normally see leather outfits during the colder seasons like end of fall and winter, this edgy material works well during warm months, too. I know a lot of you out there are raising your eyebrows as you read this, but hear me out.
You can wear leather in early fall but you don’t have to wear it full on – actually you should never wear it ‘full on’. If you’re wondering how you can make this possible and if you’re looking for a way to add an edge to your warm weather looks, check out these cool ways to wear leather:
  1. Leather pants – another really cool way to wear leather this summer is to sport a pair of leather pants. Pair your leather pants with a sexy chic top for an outfit that you can wear when you go clubbing with your friends. Don’t forget to finish it off with a sleek pair of heels as well.

2. Leather vest – now, if you’re looking for a way to wear leather in the daytime this summer, how about wearing a nice leather vest to add a dash of cool to your chic summer outfit? You can wear it over a cute dress to get a look that’s perfectly mixed between girly and edgy or you can wear it on top of a tank top or a shirt to spruce up a simple outfit and give it more edge.

3.Leather bag – one of the easiest ways to wear leather is not to wear it per se but to carry it in the form of a leather purse. Leather purses are great for everyday use because they’re strong and they can withstand everyday wear and tear well. If you’re planning on getting a leather purse to use every day, invest in a good quality one. Cheap leather isn’t just worth the money at all.

How to Rock the High-Waisted Trend

he high-waisted look is definitely high fashion–which means it’s a little daunting, too. Trust me when I say it’s not just for a specific body type. Here are some  tips to make this look work for you:

The point of this look is to highlight your waist, so don’t bunch up your shirt or pull it out a small bit to make look half tucked–make sure it’s lying flat across your figure before tucking it into your skirt or pants. Yes, this look will show off all areas, but it also works to flatten your mid section allowing you a bit of a boost to feel great about your figure – no matter what shape you are.

Bottom line is -it’s chic! Black is the ultimate color that makes all figures sexy and alluring, plus it doesn’t show off wrinkles and bulge as much. By using black as a base, it creates a strong platform to work the rest of your outfit around.
t’s no secret that heels will always make you look taller, duh! But did you know that if you wear pointed heels, your legs actually look longer? Pairing these two styles together will make it look like you have legs for days! Go on and hashtag that one while you rock two trends in one!
How will you wear this trend? Are you the kind of girl who likes to blend the trends by wearing high-waisted pants and pointed heels? Or are you modestly trying out a flared hem skirt with a slightly higher waist? Which ever you choose, I want to hear your style suggestions! xo
