Travel Tips

Are you headed out on your to MAIC? Or are you simply an experienced traveler going somewhere new this season? No matter what type of traveler you are – from luxury all the way to a total road tripper – everyone can use a few tips. Whether you’re headed out on an overnighter at the beach or you’re off on a more extensive global adventure, when it comes to traveling – it’s key to have a few tricks up your sleeve. Ready to learn a thing or two? Here are a few tips every experienced traveler knows.

1. Always travel with an emergency stash of cash. You never know what can happen – no matter where you are. So, having a secret stash of cash means you’ll have a few bucks even if you lose your wallet or have something stolen from you. Keep the cash in a separate spot from your wallet – like a hidden pocket in your suitcase or in envelope in the back of your iPad case. Get creative!
2. Know how to say no (politely, of course!). Sounds so simple, right? When traveling, it’s easy to get sold on things, experiences or even into going places that you don’t want to. Whether it’s a stranger haggling with you or it’s your travel buddy trying to talk you into doing something you don’t want to, saying no is important so that you have the experience you want without feeling pressured. It’s your trip, after all!
3. How to pack smart. There’s a fine line between over-packing, under-packing and knowing how to pack so that you have just what you need. Go for items that can be layered and used to do double duty – like a dress that can double as both a swimsuit cover up and a casual look for happy hour. When traveling for business, pack items that can be easily mixed and matched to create multiple looks for business meetings and dinners.
4. Meet the locals! There’s nothing better when it comes to traveling than getting the local experience – so get out there and meet people. From the best places to eat, to the local watering hole and all the coolest sights, locals know best – so don’t be shy.
5. Dress for success when it comes to travel day. Getting through the airline security line can be such a hassle – so prepare yourself. Dress in layers so that you can easily slip things off and into your carry-on while you go through the line. Go for shoes that slip easily on and off and make sure you’re prepared with airline approved size toiletries.
6. Have everything you need (and a little extra) in your carry-on. From reading material to charging cords and all your favorite devices to your makeup and other cosmetic essentials – a carry-on is like a gold mine of all your favorite things. Be sure to have everything that will keep you feeling good and entertained – even if you have travel delays or long travel days. While you’re at, throw in an extra change of clothes – just in case your luggage gets lost.

Are you a frequent traveler? What are some tips you’ve picked up along the way?

Button Down Tops

There are so many looks that you can pull off using a button down shirt and it all just depends on the accessories that you wear with them as well as the bottoms and the shoes. They are super versatile and can be worn anytime, anywhere. A lot of women I know love a good button down shirt because it’s so easy to wear and it never goes out of style. It’s one of those few pieces that you can keep in your closet and wear all year long because they’re super flexible in terms of style and really easy to work with, too. If you’re building a wardrobe that you can use for the years to come, it would be wise to invest in a few couple of good quality button down shirts in various colors (granted that you already have the basic and neutral colors, that is). Here are some stylish ways to wear a button down shirt.
Cool and casual – if you’re looking for a foolproof way to wear a button down shirt, do a casual look. You can achieve this by wearing your button down shirt with your favorite pair of jeans. Classic denims and a white button down is a really popular combination during spring and summer. Don’t forget to finish up the look with cool and comfy shoes. Heels are great if you want to make your outfit look more polished but if you’re after total comfort, you can opt for ballerina flats or sandals for a girly look or sneakers for a more casual vibe.

Smart and sexy – button down shirts make a great addition to your work wardrobe. Go for a smart and sexy look by wearing your button down shirt with a figure flattering pencil skirt. You’ll get a sexy silhouette from this outfit combination. You can also throw on a blazer on top if you want to make it even more business-y. And, of course, don’t forget to slip into a pair of sky-high sexy pumps!

Beach Bag – Choose a stylish bag to carry it all in

Sunscreen – First and foremost, protect your skin

Towel – Lie back on a stylish beach towel

65+ Fashion Tips

OK, so you’ve had your 65th birthday party, you’re finally enjoying that sweet discount at the movies and you’re finding out that retirement IS all its cracked up to be. First of all – way to go! Congrats on earning some time to enjoy your family and see the world. Just because you’ve found retirement doesn’t mean it’s time to let your youth (or your style) fly out the window. If you’re forcing yourself to go all boring and drapey with your style just because you think you have to – stop right now. It’s time to assess your closet and remind yourself that times have changed – just because you’re in your 60’s doesn’t mean your clothes have to be. Take a look at these tips for the best 65+ fashion out there – and rock it, lady! You earned it.

Keep it simple. Monochromatic looks (like choosing one simple color – navy, black, red, green) will keep you looking slim and classic. Remember – not boring, just classic. Accent this look with a statement necklace or a bold bag. Just because you’re in your 60’s doesn’t mean you have to skip the denim.

Of course you can wear jeans – and you’ll look great! Go for jeans with classic lines like trouser or boot cut style. These will give you a slimming, longer look. Skip the super low-rise, but no need for ultra-high rise either. Something right in the middle that sits just below the natural waist is ideal. No need to skip out on bold colors either – try pairing outfits with the color of your eyes, that’s a great first step to adding some vibrancy into your look.

If you have fair skin, keep the tones more mellow and if you have darker skin, try bright jewel tones. Keep accessories minimal, but bold. Rather than donning your entire jewelry box, pick one or two items like a chunky necklace or bracelet. Don’t be afraid to invest in some trendy statement accessories – when your outfit is simple, a touch of trendiness is ideal.

Include these key staples into your wardrobe: a classic knee-length leather skirt, a white blouse, tailored black pants and some gorgeous simple heels. Pair your jeans with plain t’s and soft blazers in a variety of colors and styles.
