Travel Tips

Are you headed out on your to MAIC? Or are you simply an experienced traveler going somewhere new this season? No matter what type of traveler you are – from luxury all the way to a total road tripper – everyone can use a few tips. Whether you’re headed out on an overnighter at the beach or you’re off on a more extensive global adventure, when it comes to traveling – it’s key to have a few tricks up your sleeve. Ready to learn a thing or two? Here are a few tips every experienced traveler knows.

1. Always travel with an emergency stash of cash. You never know what can happen – no matter where you are. So, having a secret stash of cash means you’ll have a few bucks even if you lose your wallet or have something stolen from you. Keep the cash in a separate spot from your wallet – like a hidden pocket in your suitcase or in envelope in the back of your iPad case. Get creative!
2. Know how to say no (politely, of course!). Sounds so simple, right? When traveling, it’s easy to get sold on things, experiences or even into going places that you don’t want to. Whether it’s a stranger haggling with you or it’s your travel buddy trying to talk you into doing something you don’t want to, saying no is important so that you have the experience you want without feeling pressured. It’s your trip, after all!
3. How to pack smart. There’s a fine line between over-packing, under-packing and knowing how to pack so that you have just what you need. Go for items that can be layered and used to do double duty – like a dress that can double as both a swimsuit cover up and a casual look for happy hour. When traveling for business, pack items that can be easily mixed and matched to create multiple looks for business meetings and dinners.
4. Meet the locals! There’s nothing better when it comes to traveling than getting the local experience – so get out there and meet people. From the best places to eat, to the local watering hole and all the coolest sights, locals know best – so don’t be shy.
5. Dress for success when it comes to travel day. Getting through the airline security line can be such a hassle – so prepare yourself. Dress in layers so that you can easily slip things off and into your carry-on while you go through the line. Go for shoes that slip easily on and off and make sure you’re prepared with airline approved size toiletries.
6. Have everything you need (and a little extra) in your carry-on. From reading material to charging cords and all your favorite devices to your makeup and other cosmetic essentials – a carry-on is like a gold mine of all your favorite things. Be sure to have everything that will keep you feeling good and entertained – even if you have travel delays or long travel days. While you’re at, throw in an extra change of clothes – just in case your luggage gets lost.

Are you a frequent traveler? What are some tips you’ve picked up along the way?

Falltrend: Tweed

Tweed is such a wonderful fabric to sport during fall. It’s warm, it’s cozy and, with the right styling tricks, it’s chic too. I know lots of women who are afraid wear tweed because it’s a little too chunky and stuffy for them but I think it’s totally fab as long as you know how to style your tweed piece. If you’re looking for something new to add to your fall wardrobe this year, why not try out tweed? Here are some tips and ideas on how to wear tweed and look great in it.

TWEED TRENCH COAT – if you’re looking for an outerwear that’s sure to keep you warm and cozy on a chilly fall nigh out, a tweed trench coat is sure to get the job done for you. Wear it on top of any outfit to lend it a sophisticated vibe. We all know that the trench coat alone is enough to give any look an air of chic but wearing one in tweed is just going to bring it to a whole new level. What’s great about a tweed trench coat is that you can pair it with something dressy and fancy like a sexy evening dress and it will look great with it but you can also wear it with something as simple and as casual as jeans and a shirt and it’d still look totally awesome.

TWEED SUIT – need something new to wear to work to break the monotony of your style cycle? Why not give tweed suits a try? Tweed makes for a great fabric to use on suits because they hold shape and structure well, giving the suit a more polished look. What’s more is that you can always use the pieces included in your suit separately.

TWEED DRESS – another way to wear tweed is to rock a tweed dress. Now, most tweed dresses will come in the form of a sheath dress which is great for the workplace or for whenever you feel like wearing something with a little bit more structure without going too rigid and framed. A sheath dress, especially one in tweed, is also perfect for when you want something simple but not so that it’s shapeless and formless altogether.

How to Wear Your Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans have pretty much taken over the fashion world and I’m pretty sure anyone has at least one pair of these in their closets. I think it’s really not hard to see why skinny jeans are so popular. First of all, they look great on just about anyone then there’s the fact that they’re really versatile so they’re easy to mix and match with the rest of your wardrobe. If you’re a fan of skinny jeans (and I don’t know too many people who aren’t), check out these fresh and fabulous tips on how to style your skinny jeans for any look.

CLASSIC STYLE – of course, if you don’t want anything too bold or too fancy, you can always stick to the basics and do a classic style with your skinny jeans. This means wearing your skinnies straight up with no froufrou whatsoever. To keep your whole look from being boring, though, you can add accessories that would make it more interesting. Picking out a gorgeous top to wear with your skinny jeans would help heaps, too, but know that there’s nothing wrong with going classic all the way as well (read: white top, skinny jeans).

CUTE AND CROPPED – even when you don’t have supermodel status legs like Karlie Kloss, you can still pull off cropped skinny jeans as long as you get a pair in the right length. Ideally, you’ll want your cropped skinny jeans to hit the skinniest part of your legs. At this length, you cropped skinnies will make your legs look longer and more slender. Pair it up with heels to get the most out of the elongating illusion or with flats or sneakers to keep a casual vibe.

CHUNKY BUDDY – got a chunky sweater that makes you look bigger than you like? Or maybe you finally got into the trend and got yourself and oversized cape coat that’s way too big (don’t worry, that’s how they should be anyway)? The best way to look fabulous in any top too big, too thick and too chunky is to keep a slim silhouette on your lower half and that’s what skinny jeans are really good for.

How To Wear Fringe

Fringes are something we all so easily associate with summer and this may be because of the fact that fringes are so overly abundant during summer music festivals. Just because that’s the case, though, doesn’t mean you can’t wear fringes in colder seasons like fall and winter. Fringes are definitely more of an all-year rounder, if you ask me. You can wear them on anything at any time of the year. If you’re looking for a way to add more detail and movement to your look, adding fringes is definitely the way to go. Here are our favorite ways to wear fringe beyond summer.

1. Fringe boots – fringe boots are definitely fall and winter material. They’re great for accessorizing your look and for keeping your feet warm at the same time. Fringe boots have a rather strong Western appeal to them. These are not usually the kind of boots you’d want to wear with dressy pieces but with more casual and street style pieces instead. When wearing fringe boots, make sure your pants aren’t bulky or chunky as the combo of fringed boots and baggy/bulky/chunky pants tend to blow off body proportions in a major way.

2. Fringe sweater – sweaters are always in every woman’s fall and winter wardrobe and if you want to sport a unique piece that’s both cute and comfy, a fringed sweater is perfect. Choose sweaters with fringes on areas that you want to highlight and not on areas that you want to downplay as this will just draw more attention to the spot.

3. Fringe cardigan – another cute and comfy way to wear fringes beyond summer is to wear fringed cardigans. Just throw them on top of your skirt and jeans and you’re ready to go. Try not to wear anything else with fringes, though. You wouldn’t want to end up in a hot tangled mess at the most inopportune time.

4. Fringe bag – not very excited about wearing fringed clothing? You don’t have to. Instead, what you can do is to carry a fringed bag. Fringed bags are so versatile. They look summery when worn with summer clothes but they do blend in well with fall clothing as well, especially when it’s in a warm and earthy color.

5. Fringe scarf – if you’re a fan of scarves during the fall and winter months, you might want to give fringed scarves a shot. Fringes on your scarf also help create more movement in your look. They also help create a more interesting texture for your outfit that, in return, makes your outfit look more noticeable and interesting .

Colorful Fall

Dark colors always dominate the fashion scene whenever fall comes around and, if you’re like me who loves a bit of color in everything I see, you know how hard it is to not wear all the fun hues you have in your closet and while no one is actually stopping you to do that, the season, the weather and all things now are just compelling you to wear darker shades. If all these dark colors are starting to make your outfits look boring, check out these tips on how to add color to your dark fall look and make them livelier.
Wear a bright inner piece – if you’re layering your way to comfort this fall, having something bright, fun and colorful underneath that dark outerwear is always a nice idea to give your outfit a little pop of color. A shirt in a bold color, a cami with cute and colorful print on it, a bright vest – these are just some of the inner pieces you can wear in color to brighten up a dark outfit.

Slip into a pair of bright shoes – if you don’t like the look of dark colors mixed with light / bright hues, you can always stick to dark colors on your clothes and slip into a pair of bright shoes to finish your outfit off. If you’re keeping the rest of your outfit plain and dark, don’t be afraid to go all out on sporting the brightest, loudest and boldest pair of shoes that you have to make it stand out.

Top it off with a cute hat – another really good way to have more color in your outfit is to top off your outfit with a cool hat in a vibrant color. This fall, ditch the black and gray beanies that have been sitting in your closet and wear something with a cute knit pattern instead. This will make your outfit less of a drab. You can also chic it up and wear something more fab than a beanie, like a fedora, a rancher or even a wide-brimmed floppy hat for a sophisticated look.

Pick a cute outerwear – layering is always finished off with a thick / chunky and warm outerwear that you can take off when indoors and if you’re looking for a versatile way to wear some color, picking out a cute outerwear is all you need to do. Wear it on top of any outfit, no matter how dark, plain or boring and see how it instantly lifts the outfit up and makes it look fab.

Dark Must have pieces for Your Fall Wardrobe

By the time spring comes to an end and fall comes into picture, bright and light colors start to fade and darker, warmer and richer colors start to dominate the scene. This is especially true for beauty and fashion. As soon as fall hits, you can be sure to see more of the darker colors and less of the lighter and brighter ones. If you haven’t already and you would like to, check out these tips on how to go dark with fashion for fall.
1. Create a darker color palette for your closet – of course, going dark for fall should start with the color palette you have in your closet. Ditch those neon colored dresses and replace them with sexy, vampy and dark ones. Go for rich and earthy colors that will make your closet look and feel warm and cozy.
2. Black leggings – black leggings are one of the most versatile bottoms you can ever have in your closet. They’re wearable all year round and with almost any look you can think of. They’re comfy and they’re stylish, too, plus they’re really inexpensive (compared to jeans) even if you get the really good kind. You can wear your leggings on their own during early fall and then layer them up with leg warmers as the temps drop and the weather gets colder. They make great bottoms for oversized and chunky tops, too, as they can balance out your silhouette well.

3. Dark floral print – floral prints are spring and summer staples but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them for fall too. To give your floral pieces a more autumn- friendly feel go for those with dominant dark colors. Dark floral prints can make you look girly and dainty just the same but they’re more fall-friendly.
4. Dark wash jeans – those blue jeans are a classic but for fall, why don’t you shake up your wardrobe and your usual casual look by switching it up and wearing dark wash jeans instead? Dark wash jeans tend to make you look slimmer, too, which is perfect if you consider your thighs as one of your problem areas. Dark wash jeans are just as versatile as regular blue jeans as well so you can wear them with everything in your closet.
5. Dark outerwear – if you’re not ready to sport dark clothes all day every day just, you can keep wearing your bright, fun and bold colors and top your outfits off with a dark outerwear like a coat or jacket instead.

Falltrend: 60’s mood

The mod look is one of fall’s biggest fashion trends to make a comeback. We’ve seen lots of it on the runways as well as on magazines and quite a number of our favorite fashion bloggers are starting to master this look from back in the 60s. Sporting the mod look can be a little tricky. You’ll want your outfit to end up looking classy and timeless instead of tacky so choosing which items to mix and match is important. If you want to take on this resurfacing trend, check out these mod fashion wardrobe must haves.
Shift dress – a shift dress is a definite must have in any mod wardrobe. Its versatility makes it a piece worthy of some closet space. If you want something that you can wear along with other looks apart from mod, go for a shift dress in a plain, solid (preferably neutral) color. If you intend to use your shift dress solely for your mod looks, on the other hand, feel free to go crazy on the colors and print patterns on it.
Bright colors – another must have in any mod wardrobe is color. Lots of it, in fact. Anything fun, bright and vibrant is welcome in the mod girl’s wardrobe. Be bold and don’t hold back on choosing the loudest colors you can get your hands on. If you know how to do the color block, that’s even better. One of the things you should aim for with a mod wardrobe is an upbeat look and that’s where all the colors really come in handy.

Geometric patterns – the 60s mod look was a combination of a lot of things and one of the things that stand out among these is the print pattern that consists of geometrical shapes and lines. Florals, polka dots, stripes and all that jazz were, somehow, just in the background during the mod period and geometric patterns were front and center when it came to print styles.

Boxy silhouettes – as with any look, balance is what makes the mod trend fab and stylish and, since you already have all your bright, bold and loud colors to make up the most of your look’s color palette, one way to achieve balance in the mod look now is to wear simple, boxy silhouettes. This will keep the whole outfit looking sane and wearable.

Vintage accessories – of course, they weren’t considered vintage at the time but if you’re doing the mod look today, the accessories that completed the look back in the day are essential. Round sunglasses, capes, knee-high boots, tights, and funky chunky jewelry – these are just some of the accessories you’ll need for a mod look.

Falltrend: Scarves

Scarves are one of the accessories you can’t be without once fall and winter comes. It isn’t just an accessory that adds glam to your outfit. It’s something that makes your outfit look good and does something beneficial as well which is keeping you warm. If you’re the type who likes dressing up outfits with accessories, I’m sure you’ll find scarves a great addition to your wardrobe. Check out these must have versatile scarves that you should add to your closet.
1. Silk scarf – a silk scarf is something that can add much elegance to your outfit, no matter how plain, simple and casual it is. Since most silk scarves aren’t made as long as the regular ones, they can’t go around the neck several times and warm you up as well so they’re only ideal when it’s not too cold out yet. Nonetheless, they make an amazing addition to any look, especially when you need a pop of color in it.

2. Statement scarf – a statement scarf can be anything from one in a bright and funky color to one made of exquisite fabric. Aside from keeping you warm, its main function is to spice up a plain look and make it look well put together and well-thought of. A statement scarf is perfect, especially Fringed scarf – fringed scarves can be worn with a variety of looks. It’s great for when you want to recreate a boho chic-ish kind of look or when you simply want to get in on one of fall’s trends which is fringes in general. You can also wear it for a country – inspired look or for something more contemporary.

3. For fall, when you’re wearing all dark colors together in one outfit. It will break the monotonous feel of your look and make it fun and vibrant instead.

4.Neutral colored scarf – now, if you’re looking for something that you can mix and match with everything and anything in your closet and with any look you come up with, a plain scarf in a neutral color is something you should definitely get your hands on. Getting one in neutral will assure you that the scarf will blend right in with the rest of your outfit. This is also perfect for when you want to achieve a minimalist look.

5. Animal print scarf – animal prints may be fall and winter staples but not when they’re in the form of scarves. An animal print scarf is perfect when you want to add just a little bit of sassiness to your look. It’s not too bold nor too subtle and will give your look a nice and sexy hint, too.

Fashion guide: bold trends

When it comes to fashion, we all know that trends come and go so the best thing to do is to enjoy them while they’re hot. Trends are unpredictable. One day an amazing and totally chic trend will come out and the next day an unimaginable, almost-unwearable-for-everyday-looks trend will come out. Of course, it’s always up to you to choose which ones to sport and which ones to ignore. While sticking to your own personal style is always the best way to go, there’s really nothing wrong with wanting to try new trends and styles every now and then and, if you’re bold and brave, going for the daring ones. The challenge, really, is to just make runway trends look wearable in real life. Check out these daring trends for bold fashionistas and tell us which one you would rock in a heartbeat.
Daytime sequins – sequins are super fun to wear during the night because it adds just the right amount of shimmer and shine to your look and it takes the glam factor of your outfit to the next level but are you bold enough to wear it during the day? A lot of women fear that they’ll end up looking like a walking disco ball if they wore sequins in broad day light but there are certainly some tricks you can use to go about doing this daring trend.

Metallic trend – if you’re not worried of looking like you came from the future, why not try doing the metallic trend? Metallic pieces always have that futuristic look about them that, when done wrong, can look oh so horrible. If you’re brave and bold enough, though, I suggest you give it a go. Try starting with smaller pieces like shoes, purses and accessories and work your way through wearing metallic tops, pants and dresses.
Print on print – wearing a fully printed piece can already be overwhelming if your style is mostly on the minimalist side so one fun daring trend to try would be the print on print trend. It may look easy if you think of it as just putting together whatever printed piece you have but the truth is that you have to make sure the prints you wear together in one outfit work well with each other.

Plain T-Shirt - how to wear

A plain white t-shirt is one of the most versatile pieces you’ll ever have in your closet. Boat neck, v-neck, round collar, or crew, the choice is up to you. You can never have too many and keeping them pristine is an absolute must for a timeless, fashionable look. Having a variety in your closet can make for easy dressing, particularly on days when you don’t want to think too hard about what to wear but still want to look chic. Add your favorite pair of jeans, a great jacket and some of these accessories to pull off casual elegance. Read ahead for some of my favorite style tips.

1. Printed Scarf – Add color, patterns, and current trends to an otherwise simple outfit with a bold printed scarf.

2. Dramatic Earrings – Frame your face with some dramatic earrings and let the t-shirt do its job as a simple anchor for otherwise sparkly jewelry

3. Statement Necklace – To bring the attention up towards your face, choose a bold, statement necklace over a simple white tee.
