TRENDGUIDE: WIDE LEG PANTS

Fresh spring turned into a hot summer season faster than we could imagine! Breezy and comfortable is what every woman mainly looks for now! But you don’t want to wear a dress everyday, right? And shorts seem way too casual and perhaps not suitable for every occasion? This is why designers brought back this strong feminine and powerful piece of clothing to the catwalks this season – wide leg trousers!

The trend became fashionable in the 1960′s and 1970′s, but originated from the time between The World Wars when women had to work and focused on wearing more comfortable, easier to make and cheaper clothing. This year the trend is making the grand return to the fashion scene. It’s an excellent summer season style. Loose cut and breathable fabric not only gives a breezy feeling, but is also flattering in the sunlight and summer wind! The key elements to look for when choosing this easy and relaxed style are the cut and the fabric that should follow the curves of your body, the mood of the outfit and latest trends from the catwalks.

Here is a simple guide of how to wear versatile and fabulous wide leg trousers with my best styling tips included:

 High-Waisted

There is no more simple way to look chic and casual at the same time like when wearing simple black and white colors together! Try wide leg trousers that bring out your feminine side and simple top to add the elegant summer touch to your outfit! And finish with shoes and a bag that add the final mood of the look!

Modern Minimalist

With graphic prints, neon colors, simple black, metallic and leather, you can add a bit of a modern touch to this already trendy style! I personally love this look worn by Margaret Zhang! Metallic tiptoe high heels, wide leg pleated trousers, turtle neck crop top, graphic cardigan and neon colored small bag – this is a fabulous outfit!

Inspired By Men’s Fashion

Wide leg trousers originated from the time between World War I and II when men were away at war and women had to take over all the responsibilities at home. This is also the time when Coco Chanel was young and growing as a designer, already influencing with her love for strong and independent woman! Pick out boyfriend tops and chunky watches to create a menswear inspired outfit.

Volunteer

There’s no doubt about it. Life is hectic – and the calendar only seems to get fuller with each passing day. Between work, school, kids and just general responsibilities, squeezing in time for volunteering can be a real challenge. Even when we have the best intentions, volunteer projects always seem to be pushed to the back burner, but we know in our hearts, working on projects that help others is an important part of giving back. Despite busy schedules and being pressed for time, making room for volunteer work feels great. Take a look at these ways to volunteer – and get started as soon as you can! 

Get your kids involved. There’s nothing more important than teaching our children about giving back to the community, and believe it or not – they can be a great help. Turning volunteer work into a fun project is easy when you get kids involved, especially when they get the chance to help other kids. Try simple projects like having your kids organize a school supply drive or help gather up their slightly used toys for donations. An outdoor clean-up at a beach or park is another excellent way to involve children as volunteers – keeping the projects simple and accessible is a great solution.

Have a soft spot in your heart for military families? Volunteering  for a family whose loved one has been deployed can go a long way in helping them feel supported. Some military families can use nothing more than a good friend. Moving around regularly means making new friends everywhere they go – and a listening ear may be just what they need. If you’re feeling like you can do a bit more – offer to make an easy meal one night a week and drop off a lasagna or even just a batch of brownies. You’d be surprised how a little love goes a long way for families who are having a tough time.

Spend time with seniors.  Not exactly sure how you spend your volunteer hours? Working with seniors is a truly fulfilling way to spend your time and can be as simple as helping an elderly neighbor with yard work or a project around the house. If projects aren’t really your thing offer to play a round of cards or take your neighbor to do his or her groceries. Just spending time together can mean the world to someone who’s feeling a little lonely.

Help a furry friend in need. Have a love for animals, but just can’t have a pet of your own? Get in your puppy and kitty time by volunteering at a local animal shelter. Spending even just an hour a week giving some love to some pets in need will make you and Fido feel loved and special. Offer to take dogs for a walk or play fetch outside the shelter – these animals will love you unconditionally for even just a few minutes of one-on-one attention. Got a little more time to offer? Consider becoming a foster owner for a pet who needs a home.

Try a quick seasonal clothing drive. Each season when you switch over your clothes, sort through the items that are no longer your faves or just don’t fit quite right anymore. Do the same with shoes, bags and even office-appropriate looks. Make a big pile perfect for donating directly to a local family or drop it off at your local clothing donation station. It’s a simple act, but one that goes a long way.

DATE NIGHT - WHAT TO WEAR

It doesn’t matter how old you are, if you’re going out, the right outfit has the power to make you look and feel more chic, sexy and awesome regardless of your age! I’ve complied a collection of looks fit for your 30′s, 40′s, 50′s and 60′s. So what outfits will make it a perfect night on the town?

This is the time to have fun with your wardrobe. A faux leather top is one option, it’s edgy and paired with bright printed pants it’s an unexpected combo that will make you turn heads. That slim cut of the pants will also show off your shape. Or try a sexy alternative to the little black dress by wearing a short brocade skirt and a  fitted black top or even a crop top. Maybe add in some trendy booties and you’re good to go.

This decade calls for cool, sophisticated pieces with an edge, like this glittery striped tweed motorcycle jacket which is sure to make you stand out from the crowd! Wear it with a perfectly fitted black skirt to accentuate your legs or perhaps go for of-the-moment silky pants, heels and a forgiving, totally comfy unstructured blazer!

Embrace your fabulous age and resist the urge to play it “safe” all of the time. Instead of a LBD, go for a gilt statement skirt. Wearing opaque tights with a skirt will keep the outfit from looking too young. And if you’re shy about your arms, a sweater with sheer fitted sleeves is a brilliant solution! You can also try and pull off the leather leggings look with a beaded tunic, which is a good choice for any age, since it covers most “problem” areas.

If you want to look sophisticated in your 60s, you’re in luck. Try wearing a sleek blazer to balance out your more feminine pieces. Pair it with flowing pants, which are super flattering and comfortable. You can also try covering up all while being subtly sexy in a long sleeve wrap top. The neckline will reveal just enough skin. Find a metallic pencil skirt to wear with this piece to give you a slimming effect.

40 - So what ?

40 is the new 30 ! By the time you have reached 40, you are a confident, successful and strong woman. At this point, you’ve had a whole bunch of practice with life and people around you know it. Looking your best in your 40’s means you can leave the nonsense behind and show off your alpha status at work and at home. Getting older isn’t about getting rid of gray hairs (hm.. maybe), it’s actually theperfect time to shine! Here are my  tips for looking your best after hitting 
the 4-0.

• Looking your best at 40 is all about your attitude and using clothing to subtly show off your figure. Try wearing pieces that elongates your body like a gorgeous v-neck blouse and dark wash jeans.  Streamlined, sheath dresses are appropriate at the office and comfy, fluid tops for the weekend will leave everyone jealous of your sexy, refined look.
• Remember that your skin is different now than it was two decades ago and change your  skincare routine accordingly. Being diligent about wearing SPF and applying anti-aging serums are your best resource. Also, make sure you are hydrated enough because dry skin = older looking skin.
• When it comes to makeup , keeping it simple will actually help your skin look more youthful. Filling in the eyebrows , keeping the lips  moisturized and whitening the teeth (one of my best kept secrets!) can help brighten the face.
• Exercise  is key for a long and healthy life! You don’t have to go crazy at the gym but joining a pilates class or walking group will not only boost your confidence but keep your waistline in check as you get older.
