Wedding Dress Shopping Rules

You’re getting married and you’re ready to find a dress! We get it. It’s not easy choosing that ever-important white gown, yet it’s easy to fall prey to some of the faux pas that I’ll be outlining in this very post. Keep away from these while shopping for the perfect gown and you’ll have a stress-free shopping experience. Looking Too Early- Try to avoid finding your dress too early after the engagement. Give yourself at least 12 months before you seek out your dress. Your interests, along with the look and feel of your wedding could change. Avoid added stress and find a dress you love closer to your wedding date.

Trying On Too Many Dresses- It’s a proven fact that too many options make us unhappy and make it more difficult for us to make a decision. I know there are millions of wedding dress stores in this world, but try to keep your search down to three stores at most. If you’ve already got a look in mind, try to find it instead of trying on every dress out there. Make your search easier so you can say yes to the dress!

Avoid Huge Sales- Just because it’s a cheap designer gown on discount doesn’t mean that you love it. In fact, avoid steep discounts altogether as they could easily sway you into picking out a dress you don’t really love. I’m all for a deal but only if you’re 1000% in love with the dress, otherwise put the dress back on the hanger and walk away.

Bringing The Whole Family- Your wedding, let alone shopping for the perfect dress, is hard enough without hearing input from the entire peanut gallery. Keep your family and your friends at home. They’ll see the dress along with everyone else at the wedding. Bring some trusted friends or your sister, whose opinion your trust, rather then everyone you know.

Work Wardrobe

How do some women do it? They always look amazing at work. So fashionable, yet simple, while the rest of their wardrobe looks just as amazing. Seems impossible to get that look down. You’re struggling with your own work wardrobe, let alone the rest of your wardrobe. What’s a girl to do? Here’s one thing you can do: create a work uniform. No, I’m not talking plaid skirts and white blouses. I’m talking about getting a few different outfits and accessories down together for a fashionable work wardrobe that’s easy and simple to create. Check out my helpful tips below.

Choose A Color Palette- See? I told you this wasn’t your everyday uniform. Pick out a color palette that works best with the city’s climate that you work in. For example, business folks in Miami probably wear more colorful looks to work, while New Yorkers are prone to darker styles. Two to four colors should be enough.

Find 5 Shirts For The Week- Pick out five different shirts within your color palette. Choose enough for the workweek, maybe get a sixth one just in case.

Add The Rest Of Your Look- Add some extras, like pencil skirts and slacks. I would say that 5 bottoms should be enough. Get two dresses you can easily accessorize and two jackets, plus some shoes to match. You’re work uniform is almost complete!

Shoes, Purses and Accessories- Pick up some flats and kitten heels to match your color palette. Next, get two big purses to fit any papers that need to travel. After that, pick out your favorite work appropriate accessories and you’ve got up to 30 outfits that are perfect for work and sure to amazing your coworkers!

Body Language

Have you ever noticed that someone’s body language seems to tell you a lot about that person? It’s almost like a view into his or her entire personality. While you have the ability to control words, sometimes body language is an innate instinct – something that happens without even thinking about it. Whether you’re assessing your own body language habits or you’re trying to identify how to handle a particular situation with someone, understanding what your body language says about you just might be the best tool you have. From leaning in close to crossing your arms, here’s a look at using body language in all aspects of your life.

Use body language to create a sense of trust. This comes in handy both in the office and your personal life when you really want to have an honest discussion with someone or you’re working with a new client. Stand up tall, make eye contact and stand close enough to the person that he or she knows you’re interested and engaged. Be wary of standing too close as that can create an uncomfortable feeling for someone.

When you need to take charge of a situation or rally a group – keep your head up high, your shoulders back and add a huge smile – this is inspiring and shows that you’re ready to lead. Similarly, if you’re taking a leadership role in a presentation or you’re working professionally with a new team, your posture tells all. Standing up straight, with your head high, shows that you’re excited to be there and are ready to tackle any tough situation.

Nodding and making eye contact is one of the best ways to let someone know that you’re both paying attention and you’re interested in the conversation. Crossing your arms, stepping too far back or looking away can all create the impression that you have better things to do. In both personal and professional relationships, it’s important to use body language to show that you’re engaged and listening.

If you have to have a tough conversation, using body language to connect with an individual(s) can help make the situation that much easier. Open yourself up by adjusting your position so that you are aligned with the other person, rather than merely looking over your shoulder. Show off your genuine interest in making a connection through eye contact and leaving all other distractions behind.

Skip the fidgeting – no matter what the situation may be. Wiggling, squirming and shifting around can easily give an impression you want to avoid – boredom. Regardless of where you have to be or what’s next on your agenda, everyone deserves 100% attention, so be cognizant of your own tendencies to shift and squirm. If you truly do have another obligation – let the person know you’d be happy to finish the discussion at a later time.

MOSCHINO - new Fashion Playground in Soho

So it should come as no surprise that Mr. Scott’s first www.moschino.com Moschino flagship in New York’s Soho neighborhood is filled to the brim with joyous items that will fill the darkened hearts of any New Yorker with at least a tinge of happiness. Take, for example, the oversize purses and heels that take up a large portion of the sales floor. There are also huge hangers in place of average clothing racks. “I’m so excited about bringing to life my super-sized iconic bags, shoes and hats,” Mr. Scott told the Observer. “That playfulness is something that I feel has been missing from the retail environment.”

In January of this year, Mr. Scott opened up a Moschino shop in Los Angeles, where he can often be found, when he’s not working for the brand in Milan. That boutique, located on Beverly Boulevard, also has a gallery-esque feeling, as it formerly housed the Hadid Gallery. While the product carried in these bi-coastal shops is more or less the same, the customer base is completely different.

“A lot of the L.A. Moschino customers are celebrities and so a lot of the business is done with personal shoppers and assistants,” he pointed out. “It has a more behind closed door feeling about it, where I think NYC will be a lot more about the people on the streets, who are trying on clothes and buying for themselves.” Aside from adding this new retail location to the Moschino portfolio, Mr. Scott has a busy few months ahead. Not only is he prepping Fall women’s collections for Moschino and his own eponymous range, he is also readying for the impending release of a documentary that charts his rise to success, titled Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer. The film will debut on September 8, at a sure-to-be star studded premiere, at Hollywood’s Chinese Theater. It will hit theaters nationwide on September 18.
