Victoria Beckham Will Receive OBE For Services To Fashion

The fashion designer will receive her award in Queen Elizabeth’s New Year’s Honours list, and the news was supposed to be kept a secret until it was announced by Buckingham Palace, but it has since leaked after Victoria informed family members.

 

 Tory MP Andrew Bridgen told the Daily Mail: “Nominees are sworn to secrecy, so she has broken the first rule of being offered the honour. It would appear to be a breach of protocol and perhaps raises questions over her suitability that she has leaked her own nomination. This further discredits our honours system.”

 And fellow Tory Peter Bone added: “It is certainly a betrayal of etiquette, it is just not done. It is just wrong and I don’t understand why anyone would leak something like that. To get an honour is extremely important and it might well be for a very good reason but you just don’t leak it. Full stop.”

Victoria  Beckham – who was named a UN Goodwill Ambassador in 2014 – will receive her OBE for her charity work and contributions to fashion.

Victoria’s husband David Beckham received an OBE in 2003.

Beckham/Posh Spice will be the first member of the Spice Girls to receive the honor, though considering their enormous contributions to the late '90s pre-teen culture and style, we expect she won't be the last!!

When wearing statement socks and shoes combos, always play it safe with the rest of your outfit and keep it simple and polished. The Shoe Style ... Replacing Your Mules

For over a year now, the ever-beloved mule has reigned supreme as one of the top shoe trends, season after season. Its unwavering popularity has been welcomed with open arms, as there’s a lot to love about the fashion girl–approved shoe. Mules tend to be comfortable, versatile, and can work in any climate with the right style and styling—just to name a few positive attributes.

So, where is the classic mule headed next? Our bet is on one shoe style that’s been picking up steam both in the fashion crowd and among our favorite brands and retailers. While it doesn’t have an official name, we’re dubbing it the heeled slipper, for reasons that will be obvious in just a few moments.

Trends That Are On Their Way Back

Within the last two years, we saw a reemergence of 90s trends in the world of fashion. Kendall and Kylie Jenner rocked the crop top, plaid was all the rage and overalls were considered “cool” again. It’s so funny how trends work. One second they’re in and the next, you never want to see them in your closet again. Like, for example, trends from the early 2000s. Who wants to see a velour tracksuit again? Well, it turns out 2000s fashion might be making its way back in small ways. Kendall and Kylie’s crop tops seem to be getting smaller and we’re trading in plaid for bubble skirts. Below are some of the 2000s trends that are slowly making their way back into fashion. Check them out below.

I remember rocking Spaghetti Straps in the summer time. I’d pair them with jeans and skirts. They were also a huge trend in dresses. Just check out the dress Selena Gomez wore recently. Do I spot some spaghetti straps?

 

When Bubble Skirts went out of fashion, I’d thought they’d stay out forever but then Alicia Vikander rocked a bubble skirt of her own to the 2016 Oscars. I guess I was wrong, maybe they are making their way back in?

Tracksuits were seen all throughout fashion month. Streetwear in general seems to be a huge trend right now. Would you rock this trend?

 

Sure, Crop Tops have been a major trend over the last few years, but now they seem to be getting shorter and shorter. Remind you of anything? Yup, the early 2000s saw plenty of super-short crop tops so it’s time to tone that body or rock it with your baby bump like Chrissy Teigen. Anything goes these days

One day an amazing and totally chic trend will come out and the next day an unimaginable, almost-unwearable-for-everyday-looks trend will come out. Of course, it’s always up to you to choose which ones to sport and which ones to ignore. While sticking to your own personal style is always the best way to go, there’s really nothing wrong with wanting to try new trends and styles every now and then and, if you’re bold and brave, going for the daring ones. The challenge, really, is to just make runway trends look wearable in real life. Check out these daring trends for bold fashionistas and tell us which one you would rock in a heartbeat.

Daytime sequins – sequins are super fun to wear during the night because it adds just the right amount of shimmer and shine to your look and it takes the glam factor of your outfit to the next level but are you bold enough to wear it during the day? A lot of women fear that they’ll end up looking like a walking disco ball if they wore sequins in broad day light but there are certainly some tricks you can use to go about doing this daring trend.

Metallic trend – if you’re not worried of looking like you came from the future, why not try doing the metallic trend? Metallic pieces always have that futuristic look about them that, when done wrong, can look oh so horrible. If you’re brave and bold enough, though, I suggest you give it a go. It may look easy if you think of it as just putting together whatever printed piece you have but the truth is that you have to make sure the prints you wear together in one outfit work well with each other.

VINTAGE FASHION

As an avid vintage-lover, at times I find it challenging to confidently wear fashions from past decades and ushering them into the modern era. Some of my favorite fashion trends can be found in the Vogue archives of the 1930s and 40s. Maybe it’s the elegance of a perfectly draped day dress, or the chicness of a cloche hat.

Still, it’s always fun to bring back these styles in fresh and new ways—breathing new life to fashion history. Seriously, has anyone seen The Notebook? Rachel McAdams singlehandedly proved that the sometimes drab cuts and colors of 40s fashions don’t actually have to be boring by today’s standards. Here tip that I found helpful in incorporating vintage into my wardrobe.

Though the 1920s might be deemed the most popular vintage era as of now, there is a lot to be appreciated about the 1930s and 40s. While some women may feel drab in a head-to-toe 30s or 40s look. There are ways to spin your vintage inspired clothing so that you’ll always feel and look fresh and fashionable.

1. Always mix vintage pieces with modern ones.

The most important part of appearing like you just stepped out of a 30s catalog or a theme party is to mix in pieces from you everyday wardrobe. Instead of pairing a 40s inspired dress with laced and heeled oxfords, why not opt for a sleek pair of strappy stilettos for an unexpected twist. Or, say you have a soft spot for cloche hats but don’t want to overdo it. Pair the hat with a simple side braid and a sophisticated all-black ensemble for an intriguing yet sweet look.

You could be wearing something as simple as a blouse and denim shorts, but throw in glossy retro hair waves and a red lip and you just might be mistaken for a woman from the past. There is something so nostalgic and iconic about soft yet perfectly shaped waves that truly speak to the fashion of that time.

As mentioned before, fluttering butterfly sleeves were a signature of the 1930s, along with wrapped necklines and matching belts with dresses. Next time you’re shopping, keep these little details in mind and you’ll start to see them pop up in the clothing store’s racks. These new styles will likely be reinventions of their original forms, but you can definitely get that 1930s and 40s feel from inspired clothing. It doesn’t always have to be true vintage, but just has to be vintage inspired with a bit of a twist to keep things fresh.

These are just a few ideas that’ll help you master the art of wearing vintage. Overall, the key is to mix in modern trends to your wardrobe, which will keep even a decades old garment feeling fun and new.

Part of The Row’s mission is to support high-end fashion manufacturing in the US.

Focusing on perfecting the basics, Mary Kate and Ashley set out to create a line of clothing that encompassed the needs of every woman’s wardrobe. From the perfect pea coat to brilliantly tailored white button ups, they don’t work around the trends but rather enhance the basics. It’s true that no matter what the runways say, there will always be a need for a comfortable tee, proper fitting trousers, and of course a never ending selection of classic little black dresses.

While their price range may soar up into the $$$$ mark on many items, it is not without good reason that the price tag be above the average. Their pieces are crafted with the finest materials, which if cared for properly, can last a lifetime and then some. You really do get what you pay for when you purchase from their highest line of fashion.

Recently, the twins announced they opened up their first flagship store in Los Angeles, which is a delight to classic fashionistas at last! With a minimalistic approach, much like their garment designs, the girls have begun to cultivate their in store presence as a learning experiment with hopes to open more brick-and-mortar shops for their other brands as well.

Summer, in so many ways, is the best time of the year. Beach days and bbq’s, boating and long days with friends are all things we can look forward to. But finding a swim suit that is both flattering and stylish is not easy feat. From not feeling totally comfortable to wearing a suit that simply doesn’t fit well, securing the perfect suit for your body type this summer is absolutely essential! Take a look at these tips for putting the fun back into summer with a swimsuit you can feel good about. 

• If a big bust  prevents you from finding the swimsuit of your dreams, keep this in mind: halter tops and racer backs are your best friends. They offer lift and coverage without giving you too much coverage. If you are top-heavy, wear prints on your smallest body part of your body to draw visual attention away from where you are bigger and wear sold colors where you are bigger.

• For anyone out there who’s blessed with a bigger bottom, find suits that bring the eyes up and take attention away from your problem area. Choose suits with a nice balance which may mean less coverage up top or by going with a brighter, more busy top.

• If you’re more of a full-figured gal, go ahead and show off your favorite assets with a plunging neckline. Go modest on other areas with a one-piece suit that hugs your frame and complements your shape. A bold print and ruching can help draw attention away from problem areas. But dark solids are also very slimming.

• If you’re petite, you own it to yourself to go bold. Choose a bright color suit that helps your small frame stand out. Look for solid, sophisticated colors like deep reds or vibrant blues.

• If you’re round in the middle, there’s a whole selection of slimming suit options out there for you. Try camouflaging your belly with bold bright prints or one piece suits with perfectly placed ruching to disguise your middle. This also works well when you are expecting.

• For those of you who are tall, thin and boy-shaped, choose swimsuits that accentuate your body. Go for angled stripes, soft colors and prints to show off your slim figure. xo

TRENDSETTER - MARTHA WARD

Martha Ward may channel a pensioner, but her skill in mixing designer fashion with high street is very modern. "I like mixing because it makes an outfit much more interesting. I will wear an H&M blouse with a Prada skirt or Chloé pants with a River Island T-shirt," she says. "Never all one thing, head to toe." Skirts are a perennial - voluminous and shapely for day, and pencil for night - as are blouses, which are usually vintage and cream-coloured. She espouses the benefits of a lace collar or a chunky necklace, demonstrating the sprucing up effect by clipping lace discs to a blouse over her buttons. "Look at the difference. I know I look a bit like Krusty the Clown, but it can work." Also crucial is a good tailor. "I spend my life in the tailor down the road, I must go about twice a week. I bought a vintage Chanel jacket and he took the shoulders off and refitted them. Pretty impressive," she says.
