Fashion Trends That Will Be in for 2017 and 5 That Will Be Out

With a new year brings trends that we're ready to welcome into the fold and others that can see themselves out. But which is which? Read on for insider info from the pros at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, The Shoebox, and other major retailers.

IN: "Stripes are the equivalent to what a white t-shirt used to be back in the day," says Roopal Patel, fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue. "They have nine lives. We've seen the trend now for two to three seasons and it will continue to carry forward."

IN: "Sneakers will continue to be extremely popular in the upcoming year," advises Gennie Yi, Intermix's buyer of designer and ready-to-wear. "Because of their versatility, you can never have too many. Glitter, leopard, and satin updates to sneakers effortlessly dress up an outfit and give you a reason to buy multiple pairs."

IN: "There was an artistically inspired theme across the runways," says Kate Foley, contributing fashion director of Vestiaire Collective. "From Roksanda and Céline to J.W.Anderson, Proenza Schouler, Marni, Valentino, and many other brands, whether directly inspired by a particular artist's work, painterly prints, or patterns, strong art references will be here to stay in 2017."

IN: "One shoe trend we see really taking over in 2017 is the mule," says Sean Kirschenbaum co-owner of The Shoebox. "Flat mules, low block-heel mules, heeled mules, sneaker mules, espadrille mules—mules in all fabrications and colors including velvet, satin, canvas, and embroidery. They were big for 2016 and they will be even bigger for 2017."

OUT: "Corsets had such a huge moment this year, but I'm not sure if I see designers continuing this into 2017 after the trend was covered in such a major way in the press," says Foley.

OUT: "A huge change is coming in the denim world," warns Jaffe.  "Skinny jeans with stretch have reigned supreme for a long time but we anticipate a shift toward contrast denim styles in vintage silhouettes."

OUT: "There's a fresher graphic interpretation of the sweet and romantic trends of 2016," says Yi. "The tulip flare has moved onto a sharper asymmetric hemline, the soft lingerie-dressing look has evolved into strong and powerful corsetry details, and the romantic and luxe velvets of the past are now modernized with an easy-to-wear attitude."

OUT: "Heels four to five inches or higher have been a trend that we have seen rapidly decrease," notes  Kirschenbaum. "Women nowadays are way more focused on comfort and practicality (and value investing in a shoe that is both stylish and comfortable enough to walk or commute in) which is why there has been such an increase in demand for sneakers and low block-heels."

OUT: "I think we're starting to see that clean classic sneakers are not as exciting anymore," says Patel. "It's now about sneakers that are embellished or have something like emojis or logos on them."

Spring Trends to Love

Spring is just around the corner bringing us warmer temperatures, and of course, spring fashion trends. This is why I wanted to bring you my spring trends recap. Check them out and be sure to let me know what you think in the comments section! Are you ready for spring trends?

Cold Shoulder- Cold shoulder cut outs were on almost every runway during Spring 2016 fashion week, which is why I think they’ll definitely make their way into your closet this season.

To rock a cold shoulder cut out, check out this ASOS Border Lace Cold Shoulder Dress. It’s got a boho vibe with just the right cold shoulder detail. I am loving this new trend. It’s flattering yet creates some unique shapes and silhouettes which is exactly what I love in a fashion trend.

Spring Stripes- Designers like Stella McCartney, Dior and Tommy Hilfiger incorporated stripes of all sorts into their collections. Wide, thin, horizontal, vertical, so expect to see plenty of stripes in stores this spring.

Street Wear– Collections were chalk full of bomber jackets, sweat pants and sneakers. Just check out this look from Rag and Bone’s collection below.

Canadian Tuxedo- Expect to see denim-on-denim looks this spring. Remember, to rock a denim look, you’ve got to focus on pairing different shades.

How To wear a Jean Jacket

The denim jacket is a trend that comes and goes. It was huge in the nineties and worked its way into the early 2000s. It’s back again with vengeance. I see the jean jacket on women everywhere. It’s a comfortable staple that helps you stay warm while still keeping you stylish and casual. I love denim jackets worn over the shoulder. This style technique helps make your outfit look elegant. To get the perfect jean jacket style at home, check out my styling tips below! Let me know what you think in the comments. Are you rocking jean jackets this summer?

Comfy With Sneakers- This look is perfect for when you’re out on a shopping trip and looking for some comfort while still working with style. It’s cool, easy, and definitely breezy.

With A Spring Dress- I love this look with a spring or summer dress. It really adds a little extra something and keeps your shoulders warm for those nightly breezes.

Over Your Shoulders- Like I said, I love this look. It turns your casual daytime look up a notch while creating a different kind of silhouette. Try it if you’re looking to wear something new and different.

JEANS & SHOES COMBOS

Is there anything more classic than a great pair of jeans? I feel like I could add a blazer and wear that as a uniform anywhere. Jeans go well with just about anything and work for weekends, date nights, and even the office if you know how to style them. But, as always, if you’re going for a certain look, you’ll want to wear the right shoes to go with them. Deciding on the right pair is actually rather easy  as long as you know what vibe you’re looking for. To help you get started, here are some tips to help narrow down your choices for jeans & shoes combos to rock season after season.
BLACK PUMPS – Going for the classic ‘model off duty’ look? A pair of black pumps is sure to look great with any pair of jeans you’re planning to wear – be it skinny ones, bootleg, straight cut or even cropped. Not sure what shoes would look great with that outfit you’re wearing? Black pumps can surely do the trick for you, too.

NUDE HEELS – If you don’t have very long legs and you want to pull off cropped jeans, a pair of nude heels can help you achieve the illusion of longer legs to make it work. Make sure your nude heels match or at least come close to your skin tone to maximize the elongating effect. You can also wear nude heels with jeans that have a rather short hemline.

PRINTED PUMPS – If you’re going for as simpler look and you want your shoes to be the main focus of your outfit, go for printed pumps. These will look fab with basic jeans and a simple top because they will really stand out.

FLIP FLOPS AND FLAT SANDALS – Jeans and flip flops or flat sandals make the perfect combo for an easy summer outfit. Flip flops and flat sandals with jeans are great for when you want to pop by the beach for a walk, for a quick trip to the mall or for running everyday errands.

SNEAKERS – Whether you’re going for a slightly sporty look or a tomboy-ish kind of vibe, a pair of sneakers is definitely your best bet. With regular jeans, your sneakers can lend your outfit just the right hint of that sporty vibe but with full on ripped and distressed pants, you can achieve a really cool tomboy look and ....

BOOTS – You can’t go wrong with a boots-and-jeans combo. Ankle boots are great for summer while taller boots are perfect to pair up with your jeans in winter. Going for that ‘Ride or Die chick’ look? Pair up your jeans with a beat up pair of moto boots. You can also wear cowboy boots with your jeans to get that country princess look. xo

Sneaker Trend continues 2015

When we think of sneakers, we immediately think of casual cahoots and athletic activities. But do you know that you can transform these shoes into high-fashion pieces as well? Just follow these styling tips for to create some casual cool looks with your favorite sneakers:

LOOK TAILORED

Sneakers are casual shoes you can take for long walks and nonstop shopping. But if you want to make them look more sophisticated, do remember to wear them with tailored pieces. A formal blazer and a button-down shirt are just some of the items you need for a classy look.

CHOOSE LUXURIOUS ELEMENTS

Another way to inject some elegance to your sneaker-oriented outfit is to wear clothes made from luxurious elements. Pieces made from lace, faux fur and silk are good items to wear with your sneaks. Sequined and bejeweled clothes will look stunning with your sporty shoes as well.

Show some Legs

If you dislike super short skirts, there is still a way to show your luscious legs. You can do that with a high-slit skirt, a high-fashion item that shows some skin – without baring it all. This gam-revealing skirt is a sexy bottom to wear with your favorite sneakers, as the shoes can add a dash of boyishness to your super girly outfit.

TRENDGUIDE 2014 : SNEAKERS

This look, or a high-low variation, is going to be the look of 2014. I know this because wherever my eye has alighted during the past few weeks of shows, it has snagged on a highly evolved (ie designer version) of sporty footwear. I don't mean those wedge-trainer hybrids that Isabel Marant spawned ages ago, and which even she said THIS WEEK  she can no longer bear to look at, but proper sneakers and skate shoes...

No more murder on the dance floor. I may have to break the habit of a lifetime and get on down there. In my skate shoes...xo
